driving to J.B.

Ello again all,

My car has never been out of the country, so I'm wondering, is it safe to travel to J.B. nowadays? (no offense to malaysian forummers)
After hearing horror stories from my mum, I'm kinda paranoid, though I'd much rather drive than to sit in some stranger's car and make obligatory small talk.

Please advise .
Thanks!!

I also felt JB is the most unsafe city in Mal .... The crimes goes up like the petrol price...... Recently ****** thievies (usually they're on motorcycles) are far too notorious, newspaper reported their crime everyday....... Some were attacked, injured even dead....... As for car crime, RX8 is not a target for them...... Just becareful if you got a collection of meters or ICE.......

Its relatively safe in JB. I pop in there pretty often but have never felt very threaten. All that crap ST reports on cars getting stolen is just statistical rubbish -- something like 134 Singaporean cars get stolen a year in Malaysia -- but they always forget to mention that nearly 80,000 cars come in & out of JB/S'pore everyday. Morelike to win the lottery besides, they aren't looking out to steal RX8s.

When it comes to crime, I firmly believe that "if you look like a victim, the chances are, you will be a victim."

But I do suggest that you look out for the mozzies buzzing along the roads... the motocycles there are death defying stuntmen in disguise.

Hmmm.. thats one lottery I wouldn't want to win..
I did hear from my Malaysian friend that they aren't really interested in 8s.. but another thing I'm concerned about.. is the traffic conditions..

It should be relatively light in the morning around 9am right? I hope so. Should be going in in the morning 9+ and back around 9+ that evening as well..

I'm kinda claustrophobic when it comes to my car, and I really would just whack any guy who so much as brushes a lil bit against my car.

Do I need to bring a baseball bat?

I'm neither Singaporean or Malaysian.... But here is my take.. I go to singapore really often and cross into JB often as well...

Firstly, I believe that JB is much unsafer than Singapore definately... But the thing is in most major cities there are always bad areas or crime.. But the thing is, a lot of the shopping centres, parking places, etc in JB actually make a lot of effort to keep the singaporean customers cars safe.

Having JB friends, i can sense the dislike for singaporeans... I would be too if i went to the super market shopping and see the aunties holding their calculators saying "this one cheap, that one expensive".... Even when buying food omg...

Dun mean to offend anyone.. just my take..

JB people dislike sporeans? Maybe its both. To the shopkeeper being able to sell more stuff will definately make him happy to receive sporeans. To the m'sians, maybe its envy or maybe its the inflation brought upon by SG spending hurts.

Dolly: just do not drive it alone. always lock doors at all times and park in a safe place. Stick to places in JB where security is better and not notorious for anything. Do not turn into unknown roads.

And your baseball bat does nothing. Bring a gun. Make sure gun is of higher calibre than .38 (a elephant killing .50 dessert eagle or .357 magnum is the minimum) If not convinient, follow safty instructions above.

Afew of my friends and relatives all have bad experience in JB. Mercedes got stolen, car go deeply scratch by motorist, bag got ****** by motorist and was injured due to be pull for a distance of 10+meters.

I do go to JB alot,

I had not meet any robbers or thiefs yet till today does not meants that its safe, and I felt that its definitely not safe.

The more time u go into JB the higher the possibilities of getting rob. so its just whelther if u are willing to take the risk.

Dont brother carry a baseball bat, just be abit more alert and try not to do any thing that will make u an easy target.

ah ger, this is straight from ppl i know. case 1, my fren's rav4 got stolen. he park in carpark with barrier attendent and the carpark is just besides the police station. case 2, my fren's fren car stop at petrol station and the female fren sat in back seat wait. guy come up, open door, pull out knife and took away the belongings. ok, maybe i got unlucky frenz but just telling u the cases from my frenz. sure, there's also the case recently where my fren's car was driven off right in Mohd Sultan but think there are more cases in JB.

if u must drive in, i believe in safety in numbers especially for a female driver. otherwise, pls reconsider driving in. i dun wan to lose my close fren hor.

dollygrrrl carrying a baseball bat???

oh man! u juz shattered that perfect nice image I had of u!

I know a more effective legal way.

An arm full of tattoos right up to the fingers, including nail art and 3,6,9
numerals tattooed somewhere conspicious.

but if u must carry a gun like what emperor suggested, go for
0.5mm Browning HMG with armour piercing rounds.
Goes through anything and everything! oni problem is by the time u set up,
the robber run away and reach home liao!

or how about tis ,
satisfying way to teach a robber to mess wif u!

Get someone to rdrive if you are that worried. I doubt you would enjoy if you keep worrying. (This comes from a ultra-worry bug, me).

I drive in relatively often.

Its like jackpot. The machine sounds everytime someone wins. If it sounds everytime someone lose, it will ring all the time and people will never play jackpot again. Likewise, people only talk about bad things. But people will hardly say they went to JB safely each time they go. So maybe for every 10,000 safe trips, 1 goes wrong and this is well publicised and people think its unsafe.

Just take all the precautions if you really decide to drive.

Buy a good steering wheel lock. U can prevent them from Stealing your cars, but u can delay them from doing so.

According to those lock smiths in JB and Taiwan, the thiefs do not wish to spend too much time opening locks to steal the car, they will try for a easiler target.

Even if u hav an advance built in Alarm systems, u should still get a good steering wheel lock, cos the thief could not see your built in Alarm.
(dont buy those steering wheel locks in Spore and Malaysia, cos they are over price and the chances of those lock smiths able to open the locks are higher, buy those locks with key combinations that are not seen in our area)

If u are interested, u can paid me a visit cos I just bought one steering wheel lock for Er28, and bought an extra one for my dad too. U can hav my dads one if u are in a hurry. cos he can use mine for the time being.

cind, no matter what car you drive up to msia or thailand, its a matter of luck and a little bit a tact when parking.

you think driving a convertible soft top up there isn't dangerous? anyone can just use a penknife, make a huge slit into the softtop and just crawl in from the top of the car to steal anything, even the car itself.

if everyone is constantly worried about all these itty gritty matters, enuff to put unnecessary pressure onto ourselves, then mite as well just take the public bus or another vehicle into JB.

don't worry too much! have faith in yourself, in your car's alarm system and just be a more conscientious driver over there.....everything will be fine.
