Important Information For All Modders

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

US Code - Title 15, Chapter 50, Sections 2301-2312:
Legally, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle (per the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)).

If it is in placed, everyday will be Christmas for us all

Basically in the US it is up to the MANUFACTURER to prove that any damage or defect to the car is due to the aftermarket part.

If not then they have no right to void our warranty.

So for example say you were to mod your car with say a REVI intake but it was your stock suspension that failed?

Under that law - Mazda Motors would have to PROOVE to a court that the suspension failed BECAUSE of you installing the intake. But as the intake has nothing at all to do with your suspension failing - they would have legally no right to void our warranty.

So all I'm asking is that does Singapore have a simillar system?

If so - then it would mean that we can mod whatever the heck we want and STILL have at least a chance that our warranty would stay intact - dependant on what failed in your car.

Any RX8 driving lawyers out there?

There is one lawyer somewhere...with veiside andrew rims.

But do read your sale and purchase contract with MM.....if they had half a brain, MM would reserve the right to void your warranty at their discretion. Secondly this is singapore - where sale of goods laws (if any) are pathetic.

If there was a state law like the one in the US - then any contract that contradicts it as you've suggested would not be legal.

But you are right about the sale of goods laws here being weak...like they care about us at all. They care more about how to squeeze more money out of us by way of COE, ERP, Road Tax, etc etc etc. Soon we'll have a tax just to breathe methinks

It already exists... your organs are donated by default (unless Muslim), if harvestable, in event of your death.

The gov is supposed to be profitable too. If they are unable to generate money then how will Singapore survive? When car prices are high, people complain. When its low, people also complain. High is better than low.

There's a difference between profitable and extortion.

If only we have that law here. I kind of feel car buyers here in SG are seriously under-represented and unfairly exploited.

Amen brother...funny thing is that we just sit here and accept it.

We already paid through the nose for a sleek piece of metal that moves reasonably quick.

Most of it was due to these ridiculously high taxes which they say is there mainly for them to control traffic here so it does not turn into a Bangkok / Manilla type place.

But thats just 1% of the real reason.

The rest of the 99% is there so they can make money. From us. There is a reason why, in a recent report in the papers - vehicle & vehicle related taxes are the BIGGEST earner for us.

The real kicker is, as you have said Emperor - we dont even get to do whatever we want to the car lol. We are told that we can ONLY do LTA approved mods...which of course they take a cut from.

Imagine walking into McDonalds and ordering a cheeseburger. You dont like ketchup and you dont like pickles....BUT you dont have a choice. You WILL get a cheeseburger with ketchup and pickles or you wont get one at all.

Ironic isnt it?

It's a Federal Law. Thus the term "US" Law. So, yeah. It applies to all states and territories.

Well you didn't make that specific in your question. You said, "here?" So, for me...here is California.

Anyhoo, how is it there? I've been a few times with the Navy but haven't been for a few years. How's People's Park?
