i came across this ad while choosing between brandnew or 2nd hand 8

http://www.sgcarmart.com/main/info-2AE0DnmY-1095.html

anybody knows the car's previous owner? Is the car worth it's price?

a brand new 8 6spd-auto is about 8.3k depre only.. and this 6spd MT is at 9k depre.. wtf?

another thing is... i'm gonna get some FC culture shock when i get my ride becoz my current ride delivers 14.5km/l FC... so.. is there any effective mods to help the FC? my right foot as well as LEFT FOOT(for MT) is already modded for good FC actually.. lol

sorry justanother8, hijack your thread bit but i think you may wanna know this too?

i've been thinking of getting a second hand 6mt too but heard a lot of stories about faulty steering racks and engine mounts, etc, etc.

So the question is, what are the things to lok out for when buying a 2nd hand 6mt?

hi, my 6mt just recently passed the 3-yr old mark.

i had that steering rack problem where the power steering feels stiff turning right when starting in the morning, then it goes away after a short while.

mazda motors replaced the steering rack and the problem is gone. i guess if u're looking for a 2nd hand one, you can check if that had been corrected. but i'm not sure if the problem will surface again, or it was a defect in the earlier batches of steering columns.

with regards to your query about depreciation, i'm not sure how much is a 6AT. but the 6MTs from MM sold in 2005 was probably still around $130k. so at $89k, it's suffered a depreciation of about $40k already. $20k a year? plus this one seems to have quite low mileage and quite a few accessories thrown in.

i don't think yearly depreciations is a good indicator, imho. well, it's always supply and demand, every month that the car sits at the showroom, the dealer is losing money, so as buyers, you've the right to find one the right price for you, and let the dealer wake up his idea. but if someone takes it off his hands easily, maybe you gotta revise your opinion on the price.

i'm not sure about the history of this car, but check if it could be 2004 stock registered in 2005. i'm not certain, but i think all black interior and this winning blue colour scheme was a 2004 thing.

without looking at the car, i am inclined to tell you that it's actually a good deal. you can see that 2004 RX8 6MTs are also selling in the $80k plus range. i'm looking to sell mine as well, and if the price is $70+ k i'd rather keep it. the reason is because the 2004 ones like mine have COE $10k more exp, and my OMV is also higher from the previous 130% ARF. my car brand new was $140k. really too painful to sell it for $70+k. so just have to wait till buyer and seller expectations get closer.
