Buying a RX8

Hi guys,

Accidentally stumble onto this great site and to my surprise there are also Singaporeans as well!!

Anyway, I am very interested in getting a RX8 soon and would like know if there is a good PI to get it from. By the way, how much does it cost now? S$140K? Thanks in advance!

RENESIS8 11-05-2003 08:59 PM

Welcom onboard..............................
If you r keen on the RX8, u can contact:

Fab 8 11-05-2003 09:36 PM

Hello and welcome!

Another good alternative is Garage R at 210 Tagore lane. Tel: 65520811 or 65544137 - look for June or Lee. They have their own workshop next door, run by their brothers. Very good service.

You may have to wait a while for the car, last heard that demand is pretty hot in Japan, so takes a while to secure the car.

M-ster 11-05-2003 09:52 PM

Hi pcrbond, welcome!

Have you got in mind what you're lookin at, a AT or MT, the 250spec or 210spec?
The price range so far have been around $130 for the 210 and $143 for the 250. Every PI deal quite differently, if you in need of the car quick you could always just take what ever that's sitting on the lot, if you wanna customise to your needs, the indent would probably takes about 3 months. Anyway both the PIs mentioned about are good. Do alittle market research would help. Good luck to your purchase!

pcrbond 11-05-2003 09:53 PM

Thanks, Renesis8 & Fab8.

Will check out both EZ-imports and GarageR. By the way, Fab8, your black RX8 really looks cool and aggressive! Especially with the rotary sign on your front spoiler. Does this come as stock item? Or is it a mazdaspeed bodykit?

I am really looking forward to owning a RX8. However, need to get pass my CFO (wife..) first. Used to own a Fiat Coupe Turbo 20V and had a really bad accident a few years ago... almost had to waste the car and spent more than $20K for repairs. Anyway, after that sold off the car after constant nagging from my wife. It has been a while since I own another sports car... sigh..

Hope will get to see all your beautiful ride one day! Cheers.

Fab 8 11-05-2003 09:57 PM

Thanks for the compliment! The rotary crest is an optional extra from Mazda. Otherwise, my 8 is stock.

Fiat Coupe! That was one of my favourites in the 90s especially the 20v! Still looks good, IMO.

Well, you can tell your CFO that its a four door 1.3 litre Mazda...:D

Daverx 11-05-2003 10:07 PM

If u dun wan to wait & wanna "buy fr the shelves" , HY may hv stock....

If u r interested let me noe, i may able to recommend someone..

M-ster 11-06-2003 03:22 AM

Got to becareful if you're buying off the shelve, it's probably ok if the car is in the warehouse and not in the showroom.

Alot of these salesman know nuts about the rotary, and very often offer the key to viewer to start up the car! This will cause the flooding of the engine, you can read up alittle more about it on this forum.

So good luck!

Neon 11-06-2003 12:30 PM

Alright gonna add my bit here...

Make sure u check that you have the CD option or the 6 disc as an additional option! I was in such a hurry buying my 8 off the shelve that i didnt realize the fxxking head unit is the most basic set with only Radio! I am actually running SONY 10 disc changer now thru FM modulator. The sound is SHIT!

Cheers...

pcrbond 11-06-2003 07:00 PM

Hi bros,

Thanks for all your constructive feedbacks! I will definitely check out the RX8 soon. Looking forward to be part of the gang! Cheers

UG_8 11-06-2003 07:17 PM

Hi Neon,

Why don't you check u can order the parts in from Japan and fix it here? If I am not wrong, my 6 disc changer was on a seperate box and only got it fixed here in Singapore.

Neon 11-06-2003 11:02 PM

Hi UG_8,

I sure can do that. The only catch is i need to change the whole HU coz mine doesnt even have the single load CD slit. In order to run the 6 disc, i think i need the single slit too. Haiz...

THanks AnyWays :D

Daverx 11-07-2003 03:39 AM

Mine bought "off the shelves"......in warehouse of coz...

Luckily having option to choose from either the 6 front loading CD changer or the MP3...... I think some may have brought in the accessories...

Neon 11-07-2003 07:42 AM

I stand corrected....

I did some research and found that i can simply install the 6 disc changer :D. The price is about low 800s.

Cheers

UG_8 11-10-2003 03:01 AM

Just read your message. Well you know the answer already. You mine was not factory fit for the 6 disc one. They do it for me in Singapore. Thus definately can fit :D

Neon 11-10-2003 07:43 AM

:D another hole in the pocket!

But i guess it will be nice running 16 CDs in a car...Hehe

With 10 being able to play VCDs on a TFT screen which i installed :D

=_=)V

simmer 11-22-2003 11:26 PM

Hi just discovered this forum . seem like there alot of SGrean around.

I would like to seek more info from u all, have read up alot about rx8 but still would be better to ask those owners. Most probably i would be visting those PIs this few days that u all have stated above but have some question to clear hope u all can help and clear it for me. :)

Firstly, How is the comsumption of the fuel. For both the Auto ,5MT ,6MT trasmission.

??KM/L ??
full tank can travel how much km ?

Lastly, What should i look out for when getting that car?
or what should i ask for ?

Neon 11-22-2003 11:54 PM

Welcome simmer,

There are some threads on mileage already running in this forum. Go take a look there. The specs for fuel consumption is averaging between 350-450 for all MT/AT. Depends on how u drive it.

IMO, go get the 8! its worth it. This baby is oozing with class n sex appeal.....

Welcome Simmer,
like Neon had said, do a search on questions you wanna know first. Ask after if you can't find any or stil have doubts. You'll probably get more answers that way.

Anyway, as for your last question it's so broad, don't know what you're looking for?
Basically, in order to get the car price low, most of the showroom RX-8s here are pretty basic. Ask the PIs exactly what comes in with the car eg. sound system(does it come with base 6 disc changer), rear window replacement(don't get the China made one), air-bags (how many)?? Like I've said ask them, what comes with the car, compare them, or even make up your own list of things you want in the car and get them to indent it in, it will take longer but I think it's worth it.
Another advise don't get the showroom piece car if the saleman offer you key to start the engine, (that might cause flooding eventurally), these salemen from most PIs know nothing about the car.
Read up a little more about the basic spec of each model, otherwise it would be the blind leading the blind. Good Luck!

Daverx 11-23-2003 04:37 AM

Hi Simmer

Welcome....

another concern is whatever additionals it cost... depends on your preference........it depends on individuals....

its a wonderful ride.....

dun expect it save on fuels for 1.3L .........8 drinks fuel like water....ard 350 to 450 full tank.....

u wanna consider the road tax (1.3) & insurance......

ciao.....

Fab 8 11-23-2003 07:31 AM

Welcome! The 8 is a wonderful car and complete car. It has the performance, handling, practicality, looks, classiness, comfort and a lot of pleasing touches... can you tell that I love my 8?? :D

Jolin had implants so fast? Before lunch flat; after lunch, ehanced? Wah... modern technology nowadays... :)

Anyhow, I would not kick her out of bed regardless.

lawreo 08-09-2006 10:07 AM

think the 6AT should be coming in soon ..........probably also manufactured in '06

en en 08-09-2006 10:19 AM

hi

do you mind telling me where u bought ur 4AT from?
and what color you got? :)

i like the white personally, but i heard its very difficult to take care off.
And require a long time to indent.

But i seen quite a few guys here own white... and i must agree its really impressive.

whiteX 08-09-2006 11:18 AM

ya. white is ralli hard to maintain. it will get dirty if u travel on wet rds. or even juz rain...
have to keep polishing to get rid of all e small black tar or watever

i got mine from HY carz ....from what i know ....white is a special color to Jap....need to top up 1k to get white .....quite rare down here...seriously not everyone wants to pay more for that color.........i would rather do a special paintjob like those in Tokyo Drift ......the dark blue 8 and the Black Fairlady is really nice!!!! how come no one in SG can do this ?? is this LTA compliant?

snowflake8888 08-09-2006 01:54 PM

i think there's one spray shop tt can do it...i saw the shop van driving on CTE before, they spray painted a super scary gollum on the entire side panel of the van. copied down the number but i've forgotten where i put it. Anyone remember such a shop?

Btw en en, you're going to attract a lot of attention...=p Hope you have either a maid or a boy boy to clean your white 8 for you...hehe or rei can help, provided there isnt a queue already.

en en 08-09-2006 09:41 PM

i bought mine from HY too but i did not ordered a white. :)
But if you can take care of it well, i think its worth it.
So do you have any problems so far with HY cars? care to share? Good experience or bad experience?

do you mind sending me some pics of it? I would really want to see some local whites.

and i have a qn, after registering for COE, does the car comes immediately with a car number and which if i do not like the number, is it possible for me to bid a new number? Will this affect the OMV of the car next time?

And is ur delivery on time?

New Rx8

Hi to all,

FYI, the new 06 production Rx8 will come with retractable remote key.. If it a 05 model it will not have this. In actual fact even if u indent from japan, u can't have the pearl white Rx8 4AT cos it has stop production.. Now all new shipment will be the 6AT.

Enjoy your ride,
Jimmy

en en 08-09-2006 10:42 PM

Actually, I dun think need the additional 1k for white anymore lah...coz when i
bought my white 8...they didn't ask for the additional fee?

Hahaha...so bro snowflake8888 has help me chop the 1st spot in the queue to
En En wash her car? Any bro queueing behind me or not? Bro snowflake8888,
join in the queue lah...2 pple wash car not so siong...heehee... :mdrmed:

Hmm...En En, I think it is best for u to get the colour u like best lah...contrary
to popular belief, its not easy to tell if the white is dirty as compared to black? u
need to stand relatively close to tell if the car is dirty...from far, it always seem
clean... :)

darkelfin 08-10-2006 01:58 AM

actually white ok la. just wash it once a week should be fine liaoz. they say black also very easy to spot dirt. end of day is how hardworking u are in maintaining ur car bah.

oh and also nowadays, white damn common liaoz. go everywhere also see white. no longer special. :(

Frens,

I've gotten mine from HYcarz 3 weeks ago. The 2006 car comes with a card key (with spare physical key built in), akin to those with Nisson/Renault. Carry the car key with u, walk up next to the door, press the rubber button on the handle, it opens/locks. Get in the car, turn the ignition knob and engine fires up.

I like it.

darkelfin 08-11-2006 12:58 AM

wah....sounds very cool leh. so the card key need batteries? or the car sends out signal to continuously detect the card key?
