Buy 2nd Hand?

Hi Guys,

I need your views on this RX-8 that I'm thinking of purchasing. At the present moment there's a used RX-8 available on the market.
It's a Black Type E RX-8 made in September 03 with 3200KMs on it. It has 18" wheels, LSD +DSC, sunroof and a 3rd party cd changer. The minus is that the car will only be given a 1 month warranty, no rotary accents and side slats. They are offering me the car for $130K.
This is around the same price that one of the preferred dealers on the forum is offering me the for basic version with leather, rotary accents, side slats, original 6 cd changer. The apparently according to the dealer the previous owner of the black RX-8 frequently changes his car so he traded it in for a new one
What do you think of the deal? Personally I like the original leather and mostly the Sunroof! BTW where can I find the VIN number of the car?
I'm worried that this used car might be a lemon or maybe might not have been broken in properly. Another thing my budget is 130K so I would not be getting the Type E if not for the used on Your thoughts please!

Sincerely
Jason

EDIT: just a few minor specs added

Hi Jason,

Just some oppinions or advice.
Are u gonna drive the car for long period? U ll be the 2nd owner if u r selling and that ll affect the selling price very much. U ll ve to pay for the transfer fee of $1577.00.
Anyway i can get u the standard auto version for a cheaper price.
Further queries pls call me at 96637723

regards

Why would it only have 1 month warentee?

Doesn't it come with 4 full years? So worse case it should still have 3 years left.

Hi Jason,

I went to see the same car,

- about 5 wks back when I called, I was told that its a type-E and the owner upgraded the specs to 250hp.

- about 3 wks back when I went to see it, I was told there is no such upgrade (the person I talked to on the phone has quit).

- This car is actually brought in by the same dealer who is selling it currently, and when I asked they didn't even wanna gimme one month warranty. Afaik, normal practice is that 2nd owners typically are still entitled to the warranty.

- The car looks good and in flawless condition and the 2 tone factory interior is really nice as well, and I believe the rear spoiler is fixed after market.

In the end I did not buy this type-E and went MM to book a new one instead. I rather pay extra 10k for 20 more horses, a new car and of course the 3 yr warranty from the agent. This is just me though...

Hope the above info is helpful.

Hi Jason,

The car in question is a grey import, and the standard warranty is one year. Even the ones that are brought in by the agent is only 3years/60000km instead of 4.

heh. You really gotta be rich in singapore to drive a car.

How much does the 1.3L engine save in terms of cost?

The last time I was in singapore was 1996.... are people moving to motorcycles, or just using mass transit?

Hi Hoks, the used car I'm considering didn't have a rear spoiler. Of course I would like to get the warranty the longer the better but. I can't drive manual LOL! and I don't really intend to learn also. Hoks check your PM.

Jason: Poeple are still moving around in Motorcycles... lots of them... pesky little things they are

Juzz to rephrase: we in Singapore become poor after driving a car:D

For some reason most Singaporeans are car crazy, our car population is growing steadily and all the car dealers are doing really well

Yeah... a car is a really nice thing to have. But if I had to pay $90,000 USD for an RX-8, I'd be taking the MRT

Jaskin,

In my opinion, that's too close to the price of a new car (see indicative price of a new 6MT below, and it'll be even cheaper for the AT version), you might be better off with a new car- from the point of warranty & resale at least.

Mazda Singapore 6MT
$139,988 (COE incl)
231ps/Sunroof/6SRS/DSC+LSD/18"rims/Electric seats/HID/
6CD in-dash changer/Steering wheel audio control/Rear spoiler/
Keyless remote
3 year warranty

JDM 6MT
$139,800.00 (incl. guaranteed coe)
250ps/sunroof optional/2 SRS/DSC+LSD/18"rims/Electric seats optional/HID/6 in-dash changer/steering wheel audio control/keyless remote/bose system
OMV minimum $40,000.00
1 year warranty

Yup, I know I'm more or less set on the Basic version already. Just trying to sort out some insurance and financing details. I guess I can live without a sunroof, cruise control or LSD DSC

Cheers
Jason
