I asked him to give Japan a call to check. He told me it is not advisable. His colleague called to check on an delivery scheduled in Oct and was told that it will be delayed by a month due to typhoon. He say don't check better. Just in case they use the opportunity to delay delivery. Dunno whether he is bullshitting me or not.
Manwe,

Well, I got it from the SE himself. That's why I book the car and he was saying it will be arriving Sept 22.
Hmmm...indeed there was a typhoon that hit Japan, let me check with him later in the afternoon whether any delay to the delivery. Coz I told him that if the delivery is after October, I wouldn't want to book now.

What colour did you book? I heard certain colours could be faster. My SE seems to know nuts. Hope to get it real soon....

I booked my Winning Blue 8 from MM(s) a couple of weeks ago for Nov delivery. Same Nov delivery for the silver. SE said a black was immediately available and T. grey and red for Oct delivery.

Hi flyer dude,

I might be interested in joining u guys....but I'm not yet convinced that tinting is necessary in my situation. I park at home underground, drive from UECR to the ECP to work every day and park again underground. Drive weekends everywhere, but only park my car in the sun if no other option available (which is rare).

Question is, do we need tinting (or Huper for that matter) just to drive the roads in the sun? Is tinting really going to preserve the leather interior and dashboard significantly? Any other benefits?

Genesis, you're most welcome to join us if you like, but you'll have to make up your own decision as to whether it's something you want. Although I park in covered MSCP at my place, my lifestyle is quite different from yours. Personally, I'm getting it more for my own health and less for the car's interior. My eyesight is very important to me and I don't really like wearing sunnies :P

sgflyer

But what would be the cost like, coz my SE did say he will pay half of vKool.
Most important, by the time I collect the car, he will have the VKool fitted up for me. :p

Manwe,

Spoke to my SE this afternoon, apparently it is true that there is a delay due to the typhoon over in Japan. Heard that some of the cars (including Mazada 2, 3, 6 & RX8) seem to be affected. He say the boss has flew to Japan to assess the damages and determine the arrival of the cars by end of the week. Well, if it is Act of GOD, bo bian, will wait lor ...if it is BULLSHIT ! then ...different story liao

The typhoon was quite a while ago. 2 weeks ago to be exact. It shouldn't be affecting cars that is due to arrive in Sept as it would have been done up already. If they delay the car, I am going to ask for compensation. I have already waited more than 3 months(coming to 4) and while my COE is waiting and rotting.

sgflyer said $700 for the nano-ceramic tint. That is a good buy if you can get it at that price. I would suggest we can it for $700 and you can ask your SE for more freebies in other area.

Genesis,

Yes. It would help significantly to preserve the interior. It might also be worthwhile to note that UV would also filter into MSCP unless it is underground and illuminated by florescence. Of cos it would not be as bad as direct sunlight but overtime it could cause visible degrading of plastics and leather.

Another benefit would be anti-theft measure. It is harder to break into a tinted glass. As you probably would know, the glass would shatter into pieces upon impact(to prevent big pieces that could impale into your organs during accidents). The tint would work like a protective layer to hold the shattered glasses together(something like a giant sticker sticking the shattered pieces). The tint is made from material which has high tensile strength and it wouldn't tear easily and thus foil the attempt to smash your windscreen to get your cashcards etc. So more educated/informed thiefs(most of such people are experienced or have good contacts) would actually avoid smashing your car.

Lastly, as sgflyer mention, for your own health. Most of us know that staying out in the sun even for 20min without sunblock is hazardous. But many neglected the effect of the sun when they are in the car as they feel cool and comfortable with the aircon. However, the damage to the skin and eyes by UV is very significant. This is why a lot more people get sunburnt when they are swimming(they thought the cool water would protect them) than when they are sunbathing. Without the cooling effect of aircon/water, they feel uncomfortable very fast and hide in the shade. But with false confidence due to the comfort(especially driving in an 8), they wouldn't notice the harmful effect of UV until it shows(by then it would be a little too late).

I just want to state for the record that I'm not promoting or trying to sell Huper tinting. I'm not a car accessories salesman nor do I wish to be (I already have a super job :D ). I'm just trying to gather a few people together to get a group discount. So you guys decide for yourself if it's of any value to you to get your cars tinted with Huper.

Watoke, from what I know V-Kool is overrated and $1000 is too much to pay for tinting. Even $700 for Huper I have to think 3x until Manwe expounded on the virtues of SPF200+ :p Even if your agent is willing to split the cost of V-Kool with you, it MIGHT still be better to ask for other accessories instead. You decide for yourself.

Manwe, you're absolutely right. I remember going round island kayaking when I was in OBS and the sky that day was completely overcast with clouds. So I thought don't need sunblock and ended up burnt like mad. UV is freaking everywhere...

my PI told me that because of the typhoon, most of the world demand has been delayed cause they have to remanufacture to replace those that have been damaged. the only thing that can be done at this moment is to get mazda japan to check with dealers all around to see what they have got left and who was not affected BUT imo i think that 3 to 4 months is rather long or would i say too long for me to handle.
i just booked on monday and supposedly it should take 8 weeks (because of car colour) but has been extended by another 2 weeks cause decided to wait for extra immobiliser key.

Manwe...thanks for the good post, very convincing, especially about the anti-theft and accident issues which support going with the tint. I am concerned about the health issues, but 2b honest I haven't come across any consistent reports that really indicate a problem here. I mean, so many people drive without tinting the world over and I've never heard that this leads serious health issues! Maybe I'm being naive, but can someone prove otherwise?

ya you are right. it does come standard with 2 immobiliser and 1 spare but my PI says that there has been a delay with the 2nd key and if i do not need it then i can probably get it 2 weeks earlier. i am not too sure if its true or just excuse to cover up something to do with costing but it doesnt really matter to me waiting for another 2 weeks cause i wouldn't want to regret later, not a big hurry anyway.

That is because it is sun damage my dear friend. The doctors are not going to say you are driving without tint and that is why you are suffering from premature aging, skin problems(maybe even cancer), cataracts etc etc. These are just some of the better known problems related to UV exposure. There may not be consistent report that indicates there is a problem driving without tint but there certainly are reports indicating there is a problem staying out in the sun without protection(especially with our depleting ozone).

For the record, neither am I a salesman(I would have good lobang otherwise). Hahaha... I hate sales though my friends told me that I probably would make a good salesperson.

I just think that since we are paying so much for the car which probably stay with us for a couple of years, it makes perfect sense to pay a little bit more to protect it, protect ourselves and give us some comfort.

Hehe...ok...fare enough But it's not like we're naked and tanning in our 8's is it. Woah...last time I got sunburn in a car was "driver's arm" back in my hometown. Sure, UV rays can penetrate all over the place....well that's what she said :D Sorry mate, don't see the health issues with driving in a T-shirt. Yikes...I forgot my shorts!

hahaha...no real health issue. Sun damage is slow...but definite. I still wanna age gracefully. Hopefully I'll still look the same for the next few decades...

Hmmm....driving without shorts? Wonder what you are doing.... Could it be... :p Sorry to blow your covers...hahaha

U bet! Good call Manwe. Ever since I saw the original starry night years ago I've been a VVG aficionado. To quote the master "I have a terrible need of -- dare I say the word? -- religion. Then I go out at night to paint the stars..." In his fragile state of mind in 1889 the most prolific painting of our time was created, a true and timeless masterpiece. Hmmm, kind of like the true artistry and craftmanship of the revolutionary new renesis 8 wouldn't you agree?
