Question 4AT excess vibrations when air con cuts in

Has any bros who drives the AT model encountered vibrations when the air con cuts in? This is most prevalent when my car is in drive/reverse, with the brakes applied. Don't think its normal....

done that today....mechanic says its normal (crap!). Says its due to the fact that there's only 2 engine mountings present which is insufficient and too small to support the engine.

Hi, it also occurs in my car which is a manual car. But after doing grounding and voltage stabiliser, seems lesser...will continue to monitor...

Thanks for the comfort UG8. Weird thing is that i noticed this excessive vibes after my 1st 1k service oil change. Tot it was due to the oil, and changed to Trust rotary oil 2 days back. Still the same wor.... sigh....my car's only 2 months old clocking 4000km.

Jeeze...u guys r so tolerant. Was told by the mechanic that there was a recall for 8 to fit a bracket to reduce the vibes. But my car's not in the list. Guess I'll have to bear with it and treat it as a massage chair.....

Hi there,

Dunno if the vibrations u r describing are the same as what i get. I do get a short 1-2 secs of mild vibration when stepping on the brakes and switching gears from drive to reverse now and then.. tot that it was quite normal...

By the way what is this about the recall for installation of engine bracket?? anyhwere that I can find the list??

thanks

dave

It's a sports car right? Even the tester I drove had a few rattles and vibes....but that MAKES the sports car persona IMO. Else, would have bought a Lexus or BMW :p

Hey guys,

All cars vibrate. It's alive, that's why we call it our babe.

Jokes aside, my BMW also vibrates when reverse is engaged and held stationary by applying the brakes. The car is trying to move and you are holding it back. Where do you think all the energy goes? I can imagine in the auto RX8 at start up and the aircon cuts in and the idling speed is pushed up to 2500 rpm or more it will vibrate a lot when gear is engaged.

Be patient. Let it settle down to 1000 rpm before engaging gear and moving. It's the price to pay for sports car ownership.

As for the "bracket" I had my RX8 recalled and "bracket' replaced. I don't think it contributes to vibration as I think it's a passive piece of metal, perhaps a just cover.

Another tip for smoother startups. Wait a second after turning the ignition key (and declutch) before cranking. Gives the electronics and fuel pump and fuel lines a chance to be primed so engine fires up on 1 crank only.

The vibration is always there but oready numb(no more feeling). Sooner or later u ll get used to it.
For ur info the recall for the bracket is only for the manuals and not all of them are involved.

And i think the best way to prevent vibration is to keep driving on, dont stop. Ask neon, he knows well. He seldom stop. Probably only at the destination. Right neon????

Someone told me to turn the ignition and wait until the air bag sign goes off before starting. Apparently it's better for the engine.

Does anyone know whether this is true?

It is always good to turn the ignition on, but do not crank the engine first.
Let what ever gadgets you have installed to fire up 1st and those SRS lights goes off (probably pause of 1-2 secs) than crank the engine.
Do not straight away on the aircon, radio & engage your gear to move off. Bad for engine in long run.
If it is morning starts (or mid day after leaving it engine off for about 2-3 hrs), it is good to let the RPM drop below 1000, before turning on the aircon, radio etc ...

Juz my 2 cents

don't think anyone knows how to fix it... juz need to tune it. i realise my 8 is idling too lean...abt 700rpm. when ac cuts in, it drops to 600rpm.

anyone knows how to increase the idle rpm to 900? mechanic claims it's electronic throttle, so can't be adjusted.....
