slightly off topic, but how did you january guys hear about the 8?

i ordered mine within a week of seeing a ten line note about the pre order system (and price) in the glasgow evening times newspaper. (in may)

that was the first i'd heard about the car in the press. (been driving it in GT3 since jan mind you)

Well I first saw the car at last years motorshow (although I'd seen articles about the Evolve beforehand). Thought it looked very nice (took lots of pics - hehe), but wasn't even thinking of a new car at the time so didn't give purchasing a second thought.

I guess if I was in the market to buy though, a few conversations on the Mazda stand and calls every few weeks to Mazda UK would have given me the info on the pre-order well in advance?

Depends on how desperately you wanted the car I guess!

November 2002, ordered shortly after seeing at the N.E.C.

oilman you need to extend your poll further into the past!

Could Mazda keep me waiting for over a year?

MY GOD!

I really didn't think that so many of us put our money down so early.....................

We all deserve a medal.

ANY MORE FOR THE POLL, PLEASE VOTE, then we can work out the collective interest we've lost!!

Any Accountants on the forum?

Cheers

Feb 2003. Can't remember the exact week, think it was about 20th.

Stu C

There was some specialist press reporting all the way back to the RX Evolve so I had been following it for a while, especially as I am doing a phase of Japanese cars. :D

I ordered and payed a small deposit to my dealer in October 2002, although I made up the difference at the point when my order was oficially placed.

So, I will have been waiting over a year... although I can't blame Mazda for that since the car was not officially a product which COULD be ordered until Feb 28.

Accountant here, Oilman -
I'll give it another day or 2 then do some sums and post an estimate of what the cost to us / gain to Mazda has been! In monetary terms of course...

Ok, I've done some sums on the interest which is racking up on all our collective grands we handed over.
Heres the logic. I assume Mazda gets 4% interest, on a monthly basis, which compounds up to an annual 4.07%. The first month is just £3.33 per grand, slowly increasing as the capital grows.
Anyway for the 38 people who responded to date, those who paid earliest - September - have accumulated £51.13. For the average, which is Feb or March, it is £30.37 - £33.80.
OK not a great deal. For all 38 responders, and using the dates ordered, the total interest £1,192.85.
But assuming 1,500 people have ordered (I am sure it is more), based on the profile of us lot, the total interest earned is £47,000!
Now that would pay the salaries of about 3 girlies on the helpline, who are by now fully occupied fending off us lot with our awkward questions! Or is the sales value of 2 cars.....

Sorry, I forgot to say, my calculations are made up until 'expected' delivery date in November, being total waiting time before getting something for our money.
I say 'expected', I have had no letter at all from Mazda and words cant describe just how fizzing mad I really am.

Sounds like the Prodrive day is costing Mazda very little.
