What presence do RX-8s have during rush hour

Spent 20 mins this morning behind/alongside/in front of a Titanium RX-8 on the M25 this morning (before he went up the M1 and I carried on round).

Must admit it got a bit lost amongst all the other cars and looked like a Ford Puma most of the time (from behind). The only time it looked special was when it was in the rear view mirror.

If any of you spot an RX-8 during rush hour when it can't strut it's stuff let me know what you think. i.e. Do the other colours stand out more?

N.B. This may be because I'm just so used to the look of it and most people out there will stare in amazement.

Mr D.

That was because it's titanium along with all the hundreds of other grey/silver cars on the road.

Dont worry, Velocity Red will stand out. Take a look at Contigos excellent pics :D

I have to say that on the way to Whites on Saturday we saw a Vel Red RX-8 on it's test drive at a roundabout...

The only thing was that we didn't see it til we actually went past it looking for the right road to go down. My girlfriend commented later when we were talking to some friends that evening that it didn't seem to stand out much and attract the attention that you'd think (hope?). It did look just like "another" car on the road. I think this is a lot to do with the "high" ride height, and so it just looks like another saloon/coupe. If it were lowered, the sleeker, more aggressive stance would probably make it stand out a bit more.

Mr D, when I drove it through my home town, no one looked. However there was consolation. I drove past a large estate agents window and admired the reflection. Very nice.:D

Oh, BTW, my 6 year said "Daddy look its an RX8", whilst driving him to school. What he saw was the back of a PUMA

Not the first - my friends wife watching the pulling power review said - "Oh , is it based on a puma - it has the same bum ! "

Can I just chime in with a couple of thoughts on the matter?

1. What is the general response on here when someone says "Such and such a car is faster in the quarter mile"? They get roundly (and rightly) beaten down that we want the car for it's handling and driving performance over it's straight-line speed. Is the same not relevant here? I know I personally am buying one to drive, not because I want to be seen in it.

2. Isn't anonymity a great thing when driving a performance car? I do some freelance sports car reviews when my primary job leaves me enough time to fit it in. Sometimes we take the cars to tracks when that's okay with the people who've provided the cars, but other times we have to stick to the public highways. Obviously I sometimes "bend" the laws a little just to see what the car is capable of and if I'm going to do that then the less attention the car draws to itself by its mere presence, the better. I personally think the same carries over into day to day driving, for myself at least.

quotes below taken from an article in the Times

"Most popular colours for cars
1 Blue 6.76m
2 Red 6.58m
3 Silver 3.16m
4 White 3.14m
5 Green 2.93m
"

"And if red is so suited to sports cars, why is it by far the most popular car colour among women drivers aged 55 and over?"

Just some colour facts.

Angry IS NO-ONE HAPPY

I`m just sitting here wondering why it is that of just about all the posts and threads i read everyone is whinging about something..........
If you`ve pre-ordered a car i understand fully your annoyance with the delays etc... so am I, however this is a unique car in a world of the same mundane cars. lets praise mazda for doing something different and giving us all a car that will in a short period of tome become an icon that will be highly sought after and hard to get a hold of.
I`ve been lucky enough to drive the 231ps and have also been thrown round a racing circuit in one for eight laps and let me tell you all that this car is in a league of its own... can`t wait for November...Xmas has come early this year. thanks Santa.

Welcome Mr Specialist.

Were you one of the lucky Japan trip winners, if not where did you have this race track ride.

I've not had a test drive yet, although I'm not really that worried, I'm sure the car will be everything I want it to be.
