Question Volume up , Quality down

Is it me or are the volume of posts going up , but the quality within going down ?

Just wondered what the 'old timers' thought....

Without wishing to agree with you Mr Rogers; I agree

But unavoidable as more join the forum. Will be interesting to see those who disagree with your comment, be like pointing themselves out in a identity parade!

Perhaps the solution is a RX8 club of £1000 down depositors.

What I see is that many simply do not stay on thread, many threads stray to general bitching and moaning about 'le probleme du jour'. This results in ruining the thread as a place to learn anything of value about the topic at hand, given that there was one to start... which is another problem entirely!

It's like there is this verbal vortex that many can't escape from. Yikes!

Well, my volume is certainly up! But I did try , with the general mazda bitchin thread.

Nothings actualy changed for a long time, were still getting the cars in November (first 1000 hi-power) and some mebee in October if their lucky.

We still get 231ps cars, even though I remain sceptical, that power problem at 7250rpm cn easily be put down to no load on the dyno no tletting the air intake settle down.

The car looks stunning, supposedly drives as it looks.

My only worry is it cossets you from the performance to much, I want to feel like I'm pushing on, not glance down to se 120mph on the speedo in a 30 zone..

Rob,

If that's really the case, then firm up the suspension with the Mazdaspeed kit perhaps, and fit an aftermarket rear exhaust silencer. I bet that would do a lot to give you more of a sensation of speed, if thats what you're looking for. It sounds like you want a more raw driving experience than the smooth, wafting-along that the '8 seems to give. I know I do, hence my "accessory list" being made up mostly of Mazdaspeed parts, and shocks/intake/exhaust high up on my priorities.

Yep, I want a more raw driving experiance.

But there isnt one with 4 seats.

If it wasnt my only car, or my wife would be ok with a 2 seater then I wouldnt be getting an RX-8 at all.

Either a lotus Elise or TVR Chimp I think, even an MX-5.

Cant justify 2 cars or I'd keep the focus and get one of the above.

Rob was that a deliberate response to Spin9K's comment of people posting off thread

On thread: generally i agree - lots of threads not much content.

Interesting point - and here I am "pointing myself out in the identity pararde". :D

I would have thought that with the delays and general lack of information, the quality of the posts would be bound to suffer as time goes by - there's only so many original threads you can start on a car which few people have driven and nobody (in the UK) actually owns!

As for me - well my registration date and number of posts (2 I believe!) will show me as a newbie but I have been "lurking", unregistered, on these forums since late April this year and have only recently decided to post - as I only recently decided I was definately going to buy an RX8. I asked for advice and received some replies, for which I'm grateful.

I hope the established members aren't going to turn this forum into an "old school only" type club where newbies like myself are not welcome. I've seen it happen on other forums related to everything from computer games to flying (my other passion).

I'd like to think that when I eventually get my hands on one of those oh-so-elusive RX8's that this will be a place I will want to visit and speak to like minded people for a long time to come, so please, don't tell me your closing the door on new members already!

Cheers

Murphy

Don't worry Murphy, were not excluding you.

Just talking about the exclusive club of long term moaners, that have been waiting over 8 months since placing their orders. (right guys)

Well, I've been through the mill of ups and downs with this car, and have beenon the site since Feb (registered in April) so I reckon I'm technically an old timer, even though I did not post much to begin with.

Back on thread - yes, content quality has dropped and there is too much bitching and moaning, combined with hearsay. The number of threads would have halfed in the last 3 months if all of the rumours/conjecture were removed from the forum.

I think its fair to say that anyone new, who has something interesting to say, (which includes you Murphy) is welcome. OK I'm not a real veteran poster but I do read the site 2 or 3 times a day, so hope I can speak on behalf of most members!!
Something I noticed on the USA sites is that the moderators are fairly ruthless - anyone asking a basic question is told in no uncertain terms to go search for the original thread, and the 'new' thread is closed.
I'm not saying our own moderators, who are highly reasonable and rational people, should follow this lead but maybe some kind of page index might come in handy to point people the right way for their particular concern. I heard rumours the search facility doesnt always work too well, I havent used it because I hate search engines.

I am a new kid on the block and wanted to look into the forum for an insite into the feelings for and against the RX8 before deciding if it will make a good second car for my wife. I am not sure how setting up an "old timers" site will get away from moans and groans and moving "off thread".

It seems that most dedicated sites, particularly those with members waiting for what seems an age for a car that you desire so much inevitably follow this path from time to time.

Just look at the Boxster, 350Z and Scooby sites for lots of excessive whinging and "my car is better than yours" mentality.

THIS IS A GREAT FORUM!!

Newbie or old farts, are all welcome. 900+ posts for me over 10-11 months, quite an average.

Just think that sometimes there are too many duplicated threads and too much off topic talk. (I'm guilty too!)

Maybe we need more general stickys (Jimbobjoe).
BANAL CHATTER STICKY
GOOD NEWS STICKY
MOANING & GROANING STICKY

Just my three pence worth.

Cheers

Oops.

'Spose I should clarify what I meant !

All welcome , more the merrier , hopefully a common discussion area linked by our mutual [desire for/ appreciation of] the [forthcoming] Mazda RX8.

I merely felt that lately (and probably fuelled by lack of actual news) there has been less positivity round here , and I was actually (for the first time in about 8 months) getting bored of looking at the forum just to see and endless string of posts (not all from newbies) moaning......

That was all - Hopefully , with some real news imminent things will get back on track soon !

I have no wish for an 'old boys forum' or similar ! ! !

PS - For a bit of positivity , dont think that I posted this yet - I actually sat in a titanium RX8 at the weekend. Got to start it , see the dsh and rev it a bit. Did not drive it (didn;t want to) but MAN - that titanium looks good....

In that I only joined/found this place back in april (I think it was) the euro forum then already had the feel of being a euro 'Lounge' rather than somewhere for detailed information.

To be honest the EP register is possibly the only thread which has any solid information, everything else is a mixture of hearsay, bitching and what if's.

My thoughts are that once the cars actually begin to arive the main focus of interest will not be this part of the forum, instead i would anticipate paying most attention to the technical pages for owner related information. at that point it is likely that the euro forum will become more of a place to discuss meets and drives.
(perhaps becoming even more of a 'lounge' type area.

But as someone who has often been guilty of off topic comments I apologise, my only defence is that i at least have never resorted to LOL type thread stretching.

(((but i strongly agree with oilman's general sticky thread thoughts, either that or you need to start considering a separate euro forum structure, which would probably just be a waste of good information)))

Right: well I feel personally slighted by some of the comments on this thread and the general attitude of some people in the Euro section in the last few days. We all had a common viewpoint until very recently and that view was that we weren't happy with the way we'd been treated. Those with sense didn't just lie down and take it, we stood up for ourselves. Now it's described as 'moaning' you cheeky people.
As to Kefs' comment about 'LOL type thread stretching': well I guess that fingers me well and truly and I apologise for having some imagination and a sense of humour.
This is my last post to the forum because it has now become counter-productive and no longer a community. Thanks to all you folks who have been helpful and pleasant over the months. I hope you enjoy your cars.
Goodbye. Lensman

Goodbye. Lensman

If there's one thing I can't stand on internet forums, it's these "Woe is me, i've been hard done by, i'm going, bye" posts. Just looks attention seeking to me. Why do people have to post up that they feel hard done by and have a little tantrum about how they're "going". More often than not, they don't go anyway, and I expect you're reading this.. so... hello, welcome back.

I don't know why you're taking some of the messages above to heart Lensman? There's been a fair few people "bitching" about Mazda recently apart from yourself, so I don't think that any of the posts above are specifically aimed at you? I don't see your name mentioned anywhere? Likewise you don't see those people all hanging up their keyboards after this thread? Maybe I missed something...

In your defence, I don't think the European Forum is well structured though, which doesn't help matters. It is a bit of a free-for all... what are we supposed to talk about in here? Mazda/Order Problems, General Chit-Chat, Technical issues, Styling/Modifying issues? It means that those people who are tired of reading of the problems, or don't necessarily suffer from them have no real way of filtering them out from the rest of the chatter. Hence the bitching about the bitchers! :p

Really we need our own sub-catagories like on the main board. We could use the ones there, but they're already quite busy with all the US traffic and I think our posts would get lost amongst their noise, and we wouldn't have the same "community" that we have now.
Maybe we seperate off the European section slightly, into 2 or 3 sub-catagories, for pre-order info, general chat, and Euro rx-8 discussion... (just as an idea)? In the future we might even need to consider a seperate European forum, especially as there are quite a lot of us (Europeans), and there'll be more arriving to contribute to this forum as the months go by. Far too many for a single "section" of a forum.

Anyway, if you're still reading - don't go. Instead, let's try and fix things. There are obviously a lot of people who are unhappy at Mazda, and they should be allowed to vent their frustrations. But maybe we should seperate those threads from the rest of the topics, because there are people on here who have not suffered the same delays, and hence why you're seeing a split in viewpoints.

As mentioned before I think the main problem is threads going off topic rather than the content. I think the negative posts are just as valid as positive posts and help give a balanced overview to new members.

I also think that there is place for LOL and smiley responses, they are simply there to show appreciation for a particular post. I don't think we have any real 'padders' here tbh.

I would certainly hope that no messages placed on this forum would be construed as a personal attacks and would agree that in such an event this would not longer be a 'comunity'.

In that this is the first forum i have taken part in my feeling are that there is a place for frivolity and a place for technically orientated information..

my thinking that they should be separate is perhaps just a reflection on the way I think (but them I'm and engineer, and we're just not be having the social skills)

There are a lot of new users on the forum and I would hope that they have not been put off by recent negativity, personally i have found the forum to be a fantastic way of spending the time until my car arrives, and from now I i'm gonna strive to provide a positive slant to all my posts.

(hell, I hoped my american football thread on the main lounge would start world war three, just for my personal entertainment)

Yeah - I just added a bit of fuel (pun) to the Gas Price' debate which seems to be going on again.

Just for the sport of it !

All for positivity - lets put on a good forum for those who come along. The RX8s audience is growing all the time. At the very least a positive spin is good for your investment !
