Just off to the pub at lunchtime in the car (well its Friday!) and I had Talk Sport on the radio. Mike Rutherford (respected car journalist currently writes for Autoexpress) has a car show on there at lunchtime, and to my surprise he started talking about the RX-8.

I spent 10 mins sitting in my car in the pub car park, everyone wondered where I had got to.

He had an interview with Jeremy Thompson Marketing Director Mazda UK, and went on to discuss and praise the RX-8 no end.

Mike Rutherford said it was about the best car he had driven all year, and for him it was most likely his car of the year even though there is 5 months to go.

Spent a lot of time talking about the freestyle doors, the fact it is a four seater, and how on earth they can sell it for the price and still make a profit. Didnt mention the rotary at all though.

Jeremy Thompson said they have sold 1250 cars without even advertising it.

Bottom line was this is going to be a great car with a lot od success.

You might all want to go out and buy the Daily Mirror today as they mentioned there is a review of the RX-8 today as well.

I too heard the interview. Several points annoyed me :

1."You can go and read about it in the mirror or better still pop into a Mazda showroom and view the car for yourself" He neglected to tell you about the £600 plane ticket you would need to buy to travel the the japanese dealer
2.he went on about the build quality, practicality and value but neglected to mention anything about how it drove

Lastly (just to add to what Mark said) Jeremy Thompson from Mazda said deliveries would be in October - of course he didn't say on what date and exactly how many although he did confirm 80% of the cars sold were the high power.Out of interest I wonder what the split is on the TT's 180 vs 225's?
