Question Question for English owners

I noticed that the English RX-8's heat and fan controls are different from ours - at least our Canadian cars. The ***** seem to have a push button control in the middle. And it seems like you guys have Automatic temperature control. Is that correct? Can you set the temperature to a specific number and the system maintains it automatically? Where is the readout if that's the case?

And since it seems like pushing the button turns the fan off, is the fan control continuously variable? We have a 5 position **** - OFF and four fan speeds.

Yes, it's climate control. All the Oz RX-8's have it too. Temp can be set...indication is on the rhs of the multifunction display and you can select outside ambient display as well. No, not continously variable, we have the same fan speeds.

Here's a pic of the climate control buttons on my car. You can use it on auto by setting the desired temp or manual by setting the fan speed. In auto mode the fan speed will continuously vary to maintain the set temperature. It also automatically selects the vents through which the fan blows. Sometimes it will blow through the foot vents, sometimes through the dash vents and sometimes through both and sometimes through the windshield vent as well. It will also decide whether to go on recycle air mode or not, depending on the difference between ambient and outside temperature. It's all a bit quirky really.

Personally, I think the climate control has a mind of its own. I really haven't figured it out at all.

Thanks for the replies, mates! Interesting feature. I wish we had that on our N.A. cars. I wonder why they didn't put it in our cars on this side of the pond?

Different markets demand different bundles, that's all it is. Climate control just became The Thing To Have about five years ago and is now in most "posh" cars here.

Tell you what, you have my climate control, and I'll have the 10,000 dollars you saved over what I paid for the car. :D

i still don't understand why something like climate control wouldn't be standard in all world markets for this car...

Yeah, I agree - I wonder how much more it adds to the cost of each car.

And some countries got a 6-CD changer standard, why not all ?
