Power Loss / Dip

Had my Hi Power car for around 11 days now and have been taking it easy for the first 600 Miles. I am now up to around a 1000 miles and have noticed the power loss problems at around 6200 rpm reported on various other threads.

This has happened to me on a number of occassions now, always when the engine is warm and at different times of the day.

This morning I had travelled around 20 miles and was going down the motorway, dropped a gear to accelerate past the traffic and when the car gets to around 6200rpm it seems to loose power for a split second then resumes as normal. You can see the rpm stall at 6200 rpm and then continue up the scale. I tried to replicate the problem over the next 40 miles but could not.

This is turning in to a regular occurance and is a little worrying. Reading through the Forums this is happening to quite a few people and has not yet been resolved.

The car is due back in to the dealers over the next week so I will see what they say. Not expecting them to have any idea about the fault or be able to get report from the ECU.

Sounds like the valve which opens up the 3rd air intake path at 6200rpm is sticking. Is this always on your first excursion over 6200 each journey?

Cheers

Could be the problem that it is sticking sometimes.

Seems to be on the 1st boot from a lower rpm range and lower gear. It does not seem to do it again on the same journey.

Hopefully it may sort itself out but I can not see this really happening!

Just been out in it again and it was fine. Does this a few times a week usually though and I expect this is going to be happening to a few others now that we have got our cars and are starting to use the power.

I will keep an eye on it and let you know what I find.

fishadr,

i've noticed exactly the same problem in my car and i dont remember it in my test drive. but mine seems to happen every time - i had put it down to the third ports opening as i know there's a dip in the power curve there. it's almost like the engine coughing it accelerates smoothly up to 6ish and then struggles for half a second before coming on again.

if it continues a shall be asking for an another test drive to see how that performs.

Hi Bugbear,

Could not replicate the problem today, but I do get the problem a few times a week. A bit worrying that you are getting this problem every time and no one else over here is (yet!)

I will be speaking to the dealer about this but not convinced that they will be able to do anything as other people in the States have either cancelled the cars (after not getting the problem resolved) or the fault has turned in to the engine blowing up and requiring replacing. There is obviously a fault with some of these engines and Mazda does not seem to know what it is or is not telling us.
