Condensation or Leak?
Condensation or Leak?
Hi
With all this wet weather we have been having recently I have noticed something with my 8, and I wondered if anyone else had a similar issue.
Basically when I get in the car after it has been standing for a while, more than an hour say, there is moisture on the inside of the windscreen on the passenger side.
This appears to be directly over the demist vent and spreads right up to the top of the windscreen depending on how long the car has been left.
The demist eventually shifts it but it returns the next time I get in the car.
My thoughts are that this could be...
1. Condensation, but why?
2. A leak from outside.
3. Possibleleak in the heating system.
Any thoughts?
Cheers

PS Still in love with the car regardless

When you run the aircon, it condenses the air moinsture and hence air coming out of the vent is dry, helping de-fog the windscreen. The condensed moisture usually drops out of the bottom of the car, however, some of it will always remain in the condensing unit.
When you switch the engine off, the moisture that had been condensed out of the air will evaporate and escape via the vents in one go. The warm engine will only help the evaporation. It will then condense on the soon-to-be-cold windscreen.
Some of the above is my theory anyway. If I am right, then you should not get condensation, not as much of it anyway, if you leave the aircon completely off. Although, on a rainy day like this, the aircon really helps demist the windscreen.

BigGrin, mines the same (windscreen wet patch). Was tempted to wipe it but left the heater to clear it. Its probably residual vapour from the effects of A/C being on (Focus was similar).
Also noticed lots of misting up of front and rear light lenses.
Not unduly worried about the misting inside either (exactly like the Focus) but it means keeping the A/C on most of the time.
Anil.

...Put the aircon to manual direction and point at the screen at about 18 degrees C - works for me!!!
Remember this is abut the wettest it will get at the moment - solid rain! (if theres such a thing - I meant in time terms!)

I collected my RX-8 last Saturday and have been plauged with condensation ever since. Plus drips from the roof.
Very interested to see that I'm not alone - but what can we do?
The dealer I bought from (TW Whites in Milford) are looking at this BUT I have a number of questions/issues with this dealer.
Rather than go public (for now) I'd be interested in mailing/talking with anyone else
a) suffering condensation problem in their RX-8
b) anyone who deals with TW Whites, particularily their Milford branch
On the positive side though .......... what a great car! I traded in my 6 year old MX-6 for this RX-8 and still can't believe what a great step up this is.

This is so weird as I was just about to post the same problem.
After a few minutes of air-con and the engine running it goes away but it is on the passenger side.
Anyone know why?

Hi
I am upto to 1600 miles now and the problem appears to be disappearing.
I noticed it more when I have had the A/C on prior to stopping the car. When returning to the car regardless of how long it was left there would be a wet patch above the passenger side demist vent.
However I have found that the A/C on the RX8 is pretty good and most of the time it is overkill. So now I find myself driving around with the A/C off.
Don't know whether this helps with economy (i hope) but it certainly stops the condensation problem.

Didn't particularly notice anything in the wet weather over the last day or two, however....
Frost on car this morning. Cleared outside with scraper. Got in the car and it was full of condensation (read view mirror, instrument cluster, front and rear windscreens).
It seemed to take an age to clear, before I could safely see and move off, and it took most of the journey to work (20-30mins) to clear completely from the front windscreen

When I picked up the car on sat, everything was fine. My brother noticed when we got home that the back light on the drivers side had condensation, my dealer has said that mine is the 3rd like this, they will replace it under warranty.
edit
as for the folks saying to keep the AC on to clear the front windscreen, take note- whenever the de-froster (i believe that is demister to you folks) is on, the AC cycles on automatically. while this helps clear the glass quickly it will, when the car shuts off, encourage some condensation to return to glass as was mentioned earlier. the reason it appears more often on one side than the other is because that side has the most direct path from the condensor. one thing to check is that you run the air from outside intead of recirculate, this will help pull the moisture from the car.
