Question Please help me decide!!!!

Hi to everyone out there and as this is my first post I hope you are all enjoying your new toys and wish you many miles of rapid happy motoring. Have been an avid reader of this forum since June (and learned loads about the RX due to it) but as I had not pre ordered I felt I was a bit unqualified to make any constructive comments, however all that may be about to change!

Have been for a couple of test drives (1 red, 1 silver both Hi Power) and am really amazed at how Mazda can do this car for the price. Have a facelift MX5 1.8iS at present (it’s my second new MX5) and my local dealer as partly to blame for me looking as they have always provided first class service over the past 4 ½ years and cant fault them at all. Also gives me confidence that any problems will be resolved.

Have just been to see a Titanium with cloth they have in the showroom (it’s a cancelled order and is available now if anyone is interested) and I really like the cloth interior. Was wondering what the owners with cloth interior think of it? I’m looking at Silver with cloth interior and would be interested to hear anyones views that have either seen this combination or have this as their current car. Have seen a couple of owners’ mention it so would be great to hear from you.

My other question is this….. Do you keep the car garaged or outdoors overnight etc?? Reason I ask is that my garage will accommodate the car but I would not be able to get out!! (Typical new house) and I would really hate to leave it outside exposed to the elements. Have actually looked to move (not just for this reason but a bigger garage is near the top of the list) but really like the area I’m in as it has everything I want. To overcome this I’ve been looking at car covers by COVERCRAFT as they seem to get good reviews from people on TT/Porsche/BMW forums etc and a few of the US guys have mentioned them on this forum. Would appreciate anyones views/comments on this.

Sorry to rattle on a bit but am sure you know only too well the excitement of buying something like this!!

Cheers

I dont htink anyones had their car for more than a few days.

Mine is at the dealer, but I havnt seen the production cloth yet.

Car will be kept on my driveway overnight, no way will it get into my garage.

EDIT :- garages/covers can actualy be bad for cars.

Parking a wet car in a garage means it wont dry off as quick as if parked outside. Not that I have a choice.

But should be well able to cope with the outside elements as is. I couldnt be bothered with a cover.

Don't think car covers are a good idea as the can sometimes trap the corrosives in. I would rather leave it open to the elements.

Don't worry - it will last longer than a Lancia outside. Probably last longer outside than a Lancia inside!

Tyvek car covers breathe - I'm told + they are very light. But, I'd never put a car cover on with any dirt on the car - you'd be asking for scratches.

If I could park inside nad I was leaving the car parked for an extended period, wash it, dry it, put a cover on!

You'd put your car in a garage more for security these days. It's not going to fall apart because it's parked out side ... but it would tend to stay cleaner.

Thanks all for your comments. It was really more for security I would like it in the garage as realise covers/garages tend to trap moisture etc.

18ME....Thanks for the link , I have spoken with Newbury but I 'd really like the car to be registered 2004 and don't fancy one that's been manhandled already in the showroom (they say sometimes anticipation is the best bit!!!!!.....I'm sure there are a lot of similarities to sex with this car Plosek!!!) Also got to sort out selling my MX.

RobD.....I 'm sure you'll be well chuffed with the cloth interior. IMHO it looks excellent.....sort of two tone and is a great match with Titanium. As with the leather, the seat edges etc are ribbed (in black cloth) and the inserts are a charcoal colour sort of like Alcantara trim. Sets of the aluminium rotor insert in the seats very nicely.

Thanks again for your comments

I've seen a red and cloth. The cloth looks nice and appears very good quality. I don't think you would be disapointed.

Cloth actually looks okay but leather just a bit classier and heated too and may sway purchaser your way upon later sale.

I'm garaging my car, no way I would leave it out overnight if I can help it.

Doogy, simple. Keep the car waxed and outside.

I have a double garage, and not much rubbish in there, but the cars staying on the driveway, purely beacuse its hassle taking it in and out. Although at the first sign of snow, might give in:D

Doogy, I like your style - move to get a garage for the car...boy you’ve got it bad.

Welcome to the forum...I too am relatively new...feel like a 2nd year at school.

Q1: It’s got to be leather..
Q2: Car on driveway for me (no choice) but you have given me an idea..

Cheers, Pillman

Hi dodgy
Had mine a week now. I like the cloth, I think it looks a tiny bit bland but the quality and feel is great. My last car had leather, which looks and smells a lot better but cloth is nice and practical. It doesnt get so cold in the winter, even with heated seats you still get the cold shock when you get in!
Mine sits on the drive, I will eventually put in in the garage but that is occupied by an old Lotus which is more needing (and soon for sale). The RX comes with a 12 year rust warranty. I worry a bit about the local teenagers but at least when I wake up I can look out the window and have another look at it! Also there's that fateful day when you drag the side of the car down the doorframe - ouch.
Car covers: I agree with the issues about scratches / trapped moisture, but also if you've got a car on your drive with a cover on, that might attract people from far and wide to come and have a look under it, just to see what's so special....
Good luck with the car when you finally collect it!

JH

Got the dealer bringing the demo car round in an hour to see if it fits in the garage. Well it's worth a try. If it fits he'll be taking an order back with him........if not I'll have to think about it (hopefully not too long).

Hope you are all enjoying your 8's.
