Talking Ordered in UK

Anyone else out there paid their £1000 and ordered in last week?

Uk order numbers to date would be handy.

Any takers?

I know you know about me - but just curious concerning order numbers...

I do not have an official RX8 specific order number - I have the general 'Mazda New Car Order' sheet , but not RX8 specific.

Unless you mean an order count , in which case the answer is '2'. Me n thee.

Order Numbers

Morgan,

I have the same paperwork as you. There is no RX8 specific stuff out yet.

My dealer believes that the ordering should be official late this week or early next. Will keep an eye on Mazda.co.uk

I was curious as to whether we were the only 2 in the UK browsing this site that had parted with their deposit.

Cheers

i 'spoke' to someone in one of the other forums (cannot remember which thread) who said that he was in London and had placed his £1000 and his dealer had already received 7 others.

This was about the same time as the rumours concerning 'only 350 allocation for 2003 in the UK' and his dealer claimed to be getting 40 of them..... Quite how he knew this I dont know - if it were the case his dealer certainly knows alot more than anyone else from Mazda does....

I am awaiting a 'confirmation call' from my dealer that I am definately in the first 1000 orders. Hopefully even a 'day 1' car.

Each review I read wets my appetite further...

It was me. I ordered about a week ago. My dealer (Docklands Mazda - allegedly one of the largest in the country) said he was 'hoping to get 40 cars' (i.e. presumably this is the number they had asked for - not necessarily what they were getting).

I ordered on the phone and haven't had any paperwork yet :-(

Have there been any other decent reviews published recently? The Auto Express article was pretty awful (quality of review as opposed to view of car) but the 4car one was very comprehensive. Clarkson made a passing reference to 'the snazzy new RX-8' in this week's Sunday Times.

p.s. Are we really going to be able to keep up the over-excited banal chat for another six months? ('I really love the design of the rear parcel shelf' etc)? Could be a challenge, although some of our American cousins are certainly making a good effort. And just *how many* body kits have they already designed on PhotoShop etc?

p.p.s. I meant the review in 'Car' mag - not Auto Express.

I ordered mine on Monday, red 240ps with black leather.

Dealer said August was a realistic delivery date. He also said the majority of the first batch in the UK would be red so it might be easier to get one in this colour ?

Having said that it was pretty clear that I knew more about the car than the people at the dealership, largely through reading this forum.

Cheers

welcome aboard Rob. we find the same thing about dealers here, it appears they really don't care much for selling a car that is not right in front of them. shame really as i think they could sell more if they had a little of the excitement shared by members of this forum.

Cheers!

Talking Ordered In UK

Hopefully the numerous reports to come in the media coupled with some show photos and early Mazda US literature from our friends across the pond will keep our excitement levels up!!

If not, let's hope the dealers here have got it all wrong (they seem to know very little anyway) and they arrive 1 month after The States.

This was reported in CAR magazine months ago along with a price of £22,000 which was spot on I'm pleased to say.

Just deciding on colour is going to keep me busy searching for more and more pictures to compare.

There is an interesting semi-overhead shot in AUTOCAR 22/1/03
the car looks stunning but forget the sunroof, YUK!

Cheers

As a moderator who has to sift through all of it, I can say that your American cousins can easily meet the challenge of having to support a mere six months of banality .

well i dont know if i would call it banal.... but 6 months is easy, herc and i can carry most of that with wakeech, buger and Sputnick to keep up with the techno mumbo jumbo. plus some of our photo_shoppers are pretty quick!

To all of you lucky people who have put a deposit down, do you have a car to sell/trade in at the time?

One of the things holding me back is I have little idea what my car will be worth next July/August and therefore I dont really know what my "cost to change" will be.

Im not sure about putting down £1k deposit and then finding out in 6 months time that I cant get a decent value for my car, forcing me to pull out.

Current car is an Impreza WRX STI TypeUK, and the market seems to have dropped out of scoobs at themoment, especially with the revised model coming out.

Fair point.
ref scoobs - also being hit hard by the 'grey' imports I believe...
STi type UK should retain value far better than the WRX varients though.

I am running an integra typeR and when I put my deposit down my dealer actually said to me 'Are you intending to trade in?' I said 'Probably not - I think I can get more private' to which he said 'Good move - I cannot offer you anything above trade price because of the fixed price nataure of the RX8'.

At least he was honest - they have no leeway on price , so can only offer what they will get.

Of course the difficulty here is that it may be tricky to sell the STi privately - suspect that the value is still pretty high , whereas my integra has done it's big bepreciating and should be easier to shift at ~£8K mark.... How old is the STi ? I seem to recall they are pretty new and started life at the £25Kish category...
Even with a crash it must be £15-20K ????

Best suggestion I suppose is to look somewhere like 'parkers.co.uk' and try and scale it into the future.

Best of luck....

Morgan.

Exclamation Only 4 of us then

Well, Well, only 4 of us browsing this forum who've ordered in UK.

I truly wonder how many orders or pre-orders they will get without people seeing, feeling and test driving.

My Dealer said on Saturday that I was the only FIRM deposit he had and 8 others want to see, feel and test before buying.

Did any of you guys see the TARGET PRICE in What Car for the low power version? £5,000 below retail!! can this be right?

I hope not or we've committed to a poor asset.

Someone should email What car to complain, Mazda UK maybe?

Cheers big ears

Smile Orders

Hi.

Placed my order in Warrington last week.

After a bit of questioning got the same sort of responses as you , I know more than the dealer does. He has three confirmed orders including mine, and 5 appointments booked to discuss orders.

Also checked with the dealer in Stockport, they have 11 orders on their books, and almost the same number of appointments to discuss next week.

Looks like the waiting list will be filled and that should be good for residual values.

As to trade in, I have a K reg MX-6 worth about 2k now, so will probably sell now and buy an old banger for the next few months, so I don't lose any deposit.

I placed my £1000 deposit last Saturday.

All I have so far is the same new car order sheet that you guys have. Dealer said he will contact me soon with more information.

Ordered mine Titanium Grey with leather and am considering the sat nav......really want it but is just too expensive. Still, maybe I can talk myself into it!

I ordered mine from the Willesden dealer in London and he told me to expect my car in October! Aparently they will receive 5 cars a month from the end of July and I am number 12 in the queue.

Also he reckoned that only 2500 examples are coming into the UK in the next year.

Will have to wait and see.

Well I bit the bullet and placed my deposit today on the understanding that it is totally refundable.

Looks like that makes me No. 8 on this thread.

Still cant decide on colour, favouring black at the moment followed by titanium then red. The only thing ive decided is that im not keen on the silver.

Dealer told me I have a few weeks yet to make up my mind. I wish the black/red interior was available on the black.

Im off to open a 6 months interest free credit card now so my deposit can be someone elses money not my own!

6 months is going to be a long time.....

I too have now paid my £1000 and face a long 6 months. I have specified a red 240 with leather.
I ordered in Stockport, apparently I am number 11 of their initial allocation of 12 cars. All the ones they have taken deposits for so far have been 240s. I guess it's worth it when it's only 2 grand more!
