My excellent weekend!

Firstly wanted to say Hi. I've been reading these forums for a while and only just signed up.

So to all the useful posts and information put up here thanks

I've been looking at the RX8 for about 6 months, drooling over it would be more precises. But for reasons, getting one was put on hold so . . no pre order

On Monday the missus suggested we pick it up again and go test drive one and have a good look around. So test drive was booked for Saturday.

Now, I've steered clear of seeing or test driving one until now because I KNOW that I'd want one So seeing one for the first time was an experience! The car there was in red, with the red leather interior and obviously the hi power model. I have to say after seeing it, red wasn't for us nor the interior. To me it didn't "feel" right.

The test drive . . . well what an experience. The car is amazing, fast, excellent handling and . . .just feels right! The torque comments I've read in review are not that apparent at all. I suppose if your used to driving a Hi torque car, then you'd notice it . . but for probably most people. . . you wouldn't notice at all.

During the test drive the salesman pointed out that yesterday someone had cancelled there order, it was a Silver Hi power with black leather interior. IF we wanted one. . we could wait 2-3 months for delivery. . or a weekish for the one out there!!! The choice wasn't a hard one. . . . .

I'm now just waiting for the phone call. . . this week is going to be long. . . .

Hi Termite,

What an exellent choise you have made. Congratulations.
Silver is a good colour for the 8, but I like the red one also very much.
I am in Holland and was the first (pre) orderer and driver of an 8.
I have bought the Titanium Upgrade version, with black and brown leathet interior.
I have been driving the car since December 19. It is so different than all the othet cars I ever owned.

I hope the week will pass quickly for you.

All the best,

Eric from Holland

Well had more good news today from the Garage.

The guy who had cancelled also had the bonnet dampners fitted, which I now get at cost. Also. . the car was basically ready for pickup!! So all I'm waiting on is the filler cap to arrive and be fitted. . then its Zoom Zoom Zoom Hopefully Friday this week.

Well Termite,

You are probaly one of the lucky guys. The most of us waited months, or even longer, and you can pick one up.
The bonnetdampers will also be mounted on my car, I think it is a very practical option.

Friday will be an exciting day for you. If you really can collect the, we trust you post a pick.

All the best.

Eric

You'd better count on that, and it is worth every penny !!!!!!

Good luck with your (still) 49 hours now.

Definately glad I got one . . . now to hope that the street I live on doesn't scratch it Unforunately no garage and bad street.

But anyway off out for a nice drive tonight start to put some of those running in miles on the clock

Photo's tomorrow and I'll put them up on my webby.

Wow what a fun weekend

The car has exceeded ALL my expectations. Its an excellent FUN drive. Damn its hard to put into words some of the feelings I get while driving it. I'm even happy when I come upto the traffic lights and they turn red. . just for the thrill of pulling away !!!

Anyway. . some photo's up now www.termy.co.uk and the link is on the photo's section on the left.

Only 1 complaint about the whole car. Thats the alloys. . .which LOOK great. . however the alloys stick out further than the tire which means parking against curbs is gonna be painful

Unfortunately on the road I live in I have to bump up 2 wheels onto a curb . . .and I couldn't dream of trying to get it close to the curb without kurbing the alloys

But. . that aside. . . amazing car.

Great Pics Termite.

I love the silver car with black interior. At my dealer they have one in stock. So I saw that in the flesh.
About the alloys and curbs I agree. I am very carefull but with my earlier alloys on a Premacy, first day one of the wheels was scratched.

Enjoy.

Regards,

Eric

Well to be honest. . . I've already "kurbed" it . . . did it last night and it was heart breaking

Although . . its not too bad and there is a place that will repair onsite for 55 quid. But to be honest I will leave it a week and see if the others survive ok. If they do I will get it repaired. . if they don't. . .will have to wait.

Aren't there any protectors or such you can get to protect them a little better?

Also - really for anyone with an RX8, I had my first problem with it today. I drove into work, fine no problem. Parked, switched off and into work I wandered.

Came out at lunchtime and she didn't want to start, turned over and nothing. Paused for 10 secs, tried again and she tried to catch, small blip on throttle and she caught but wasn't firing properly. Again another blip on throttle and fine. I could see the smoke from the back and smell oil/petrol.

Is this the flooding issue? If so I may go and see the garage, she ran fine after that, but the car was warm when switched off so I can't see any reason for it to flood.

What a great looking car! Awesome... and thank you for posting the pics!

I am drooling over that color combo with the black leather.

I will keep harping on Mazda USA to offer a moonroof-delete option so I can get that exact same car!

Have fun with it! :D

Sounds like it could be flooding.

How far is your drive to work?

Did the car get fully up to temperature?

The drive is only 12.5 miles, but thats stuck in traffic and takes about 40 mins So yes it was fully warmed before I switched off. Will see if it happens again or whether it was just a 1 off.

Also . . .glad you like the piccies . . . the silver does look great, and doesn't show dirt as bad as other colours either!!
