More thoughts on Sex...

... or perhaps gender would be a better word.

Going back to Formula Woman once more.
Just out of interest , I wonder what the figures are for us 'pre-orderers'.

We dont know how many pre orders there are , but what sort of percentage would you expect to be Male ?
I would hazard a guess that most of the pre-orderers are petrol-heads , and that most of those (almost by definition) are male.

What do you think is fair - 95% Male ?

So if a car has a 95% male interest factor - doesn't this whole formula woman thing start to look even sillier (if that is possible).
Now you have your key market being embarressed by taunting cries of 'Ah ! You have a womans car !' whilst believing that they could race RX8s a whole lot better (and on...and on...)

I know we have done this , but the whole formula woman thing just does not sit right.
Hope they reconsider.....

that's a good guess, but just because the majority of us are male is only indicative that we are real enthusiasts... also being more inclined to join a message board and talk about it. however i think that there will be a higher female population of walk-in's to the dealer who maybe see the car on the road and go 'ooh i like that'

hrm, having a really hard time articulating today. the formula women thing, i hope that succeeds, it'll bring mazda that much closer to pushin out the rx-7. i figure once the car gets out on the road and is readily available on the lot, the difference in male/female owners will narrow

Must say I agree with the former comment. I really would like to avoid the RX8 becoming a "girl's" car which is where potentially this is heading. The only upside is if the actual races are broadcast in such a way to show the RX8's sports car abilities and not the use of vanity mirror.

To be honest, I would cancel my order if this reputation stuck in the market.

Panoz had a woman's only series with tube-frame race versions of their roadster for a couple of years in the states, and it didn't result in that convertible being considered a "girl's car".

Besides, do you really care if someone thinks it's a "girl car"? Sure, we'd all like to be popular and what-not, but in the end, does it really matter to you what some strangers (who are all talk) think?

As the trials for the 1000 or so women who have been included in the selection process, don't take place until July, and these trials will be using MX-5's, I dont think RX8 based Formula Woman will get going till a couple of months after our cars arrive.

Should be long enough to allow the cars image to settle in before any negative effect that may be generated by the Formula Woman series.

You are all probably correct although I still find it odd that they included a womens race as opposed to (say) a mixed race or one for Formula Ford drivers or something else which would put a bit more aggression into the cars image.
