Unhappy Mazda RX-8 order helpline

Mazda UK RX8 order hotline.

Just got off the hotline to Mazda UK, I wanted to find out if my preorder date had been entered into the system correctly as it doesn't appear on the site.

But apparently preorder dates are not taken into account, the EP number defines where you are in the queue. So no matter how early you got your deposit down the only thing that matters is the EP number!

However there are further complications to the order process.

The cars are comming in batches, they have access to a spread sheet containg the following information.

Batch 1. The first batch will be mainly high power leather in the initial colours, with a few sunroof / sat nav combinations.

Batch 2. High Power, Leather, Sat Nav will be in this batch along with a few standards and sunroofs.

Batch 3. High Power, Leather, Sunroof, with a few standards and sat navs.

Etc.

So it does look like the specification of your car might affect delivery date!

I was told I probably wont get my car till August, although the first batch will arrive in July, however I might be lucky and get one of the few sunroof models from thae July batch, but she couldn't say for sure.

Not happy about the pre order stuff and not happy about loosing out becayse I want a sunroof (might just miss out on that to get an early car).

I doubt that the EP number will be the last word in determining when you get the car. They will need to take into account the dealer quotas too - I don't expect that they would send the first 50 cars to one dealer just because he got his orders in first.

Personally I'm not worrying about the allocation process yet - there seem to be lots of different views on what is happening, and I'm sure everything will become clear in good time.

The Japanese are masters of the build-to-order and just-in-time approaches. A simple interrogation of the dealer order database would provide all the info they need, and I doubt that build of the first batch of UK-destined cars will start for at least another 3 months yet (despite rumours to the contrary on this forum). I expect the build-to-order processes for Japan, the US etc. will be well established by then.

I've been thinking about that this afternoon, as they only have two production lines, they probably need to run production in batches.

This is due to different specifications requiring modifications in the assembly line, therefore they wont be able to produce on demand.

I might just be beiing negative as I'm going into hospital tomorrow and I'm not looking forward to that at all!

See - that's what happens when you worry too much about allocations etc

Most manufacturers have only one or two production lines per model AFAIK so the RX8 is not exceptional.

p.s. I have ordered cloth too.

Mark - Damn right Morgan would have something to say !

Cannot see this being an issue really.
Fitting the interior panels/seats should not be a mega difference in terms of production.

I mean a sun roof car is fundamentally different to a solid roof car - (i.e. a damn great hole in the shell) so I can see how some production runs would be geared to one or the other.
Seats should be easier.

Cannot believe I am the only one who does not like leather seats (am I ?) Maybe I am... One of my criteria was I do *not* want leather seats !

Suddenly I feel all alone in the world....

I just got back from the dealer.

He also reckons that the EP number is the order you will get the cars in.

This doesn't make sense, when I asked the dealer previously he said that the orders were allocated on order date, but now that doesn't seem to be the case.

Anyone been waiting a while for a useful response from the pre-order site? I pre-ordered late last week (hipower, blue, leather) and my status still shows up as "submitted" and I've received no confirmation e-mail and nothing in the post.

As a test I plugged my main e-mail address into the "lost password" form and nothing's come of that either.

Is the site b*ggered?

My advice would be to phone them up, 08457 484848.
They are very helpful.

My dealer had mispelt my name and left all the other details except for the address blank. I tried to use the website to update my details but when I click aggree on the confirmation screen the site seems to crash and all my changes are lost!

So I called and asked them to update the record manually.

Don't Panic!
I ordered last week too and my status went to 'Accepted' today. I guess the admin takes a while.

I just called to get my EP number. I was told that everyone who ordered through a dealer will receive a welcome pack (which will include a username/password) within the next 10 days.
