Letter to Mazda UK
You may remember from yesterday’s rants regarding the delayed delivery we talked about writing a letter to Mazda expressing our displeasure.
I have not finished it just yet as I feel we need to include some suggestion of "compensation" for our inconvenience.
I have attached the letter as it is (if it will attach) and await feedback.
I plan to send it in the post tonight, which goes at 7pm so feedback by the would be appreciated.
Chris
PS the letter lost all of its formatting when saving as a txt file so it will look better than this

Nice one. I think we need to push for sweeteners now and I suggest that we go for £1000 worth of goodies of our choice to be added to the car (cash back may not be acceptable as its cashflow item). Also adise them or cancelled orders we are aware of plus others threatening to.

I agree if you are going to ask for something, extras would be a good idea as the cost price to Mazda is a lot less than the selling price to us.
Realistically I dont think they will entertain the idea of £1000, but a few hundred might be worth suggesting and see what happens.

Nice letter, straight to the point but without insult.
I think the best we could hope for is probably a single item to add to the car like for example a free sunroof or something like that. I doubt they will be willing to part company with much more than 500 quid. Even though they have had our cash for 8 months interest on that along as said in another thread is the price of a car.

tinted windows, tinted windows!
TBH I agree £500 is max we could hope for. Also, not sure whether its worth mentioning that WE are aware of the fact that they have broken the T&Cs for the contract by changing the spec of the car and that in the eyes of an independent changing the date from June/July (for me at least) to October doesn't consitute reasonable slippage. This has made it easier for some people to cancel as well. It just puts a little more edge on things to push to get something or else we know we can walk and get our money back and that would be a big PR disaster for them

Let's at least try £1000. Don't forget that is the retail price, manufacturing price may be closer to £200 being circa 1% of the purchase price. Aim high, we can always settle lower.
Add me in, I will PM details.

May want to mention low-power and blue/green/yellow delays too.
I know for a fact ALL colours were on the first ship to US so why we get them 2 months later? (not that I've ordered one of them ).

The problems we are are having with Mazda is simple.
They dont see europe as a great money spinner for them.
We are an after thought...
hence limited information, limited colours /options etc etc etc

Additions.
Perhaps worth mentioning that we understand that Mazda UK might not be wholly to blame for the delays, but we don't get any official feed back from them when the recieve news of further delays or any information on what they are doing to inform Mazda of the European displeasure at taking a back seat to the rest of the world.
Surely after the 1st American allocation nobody would have been concerned at a months wait so the Europeans could recieve their first allocation. Instead of America and Japan recieving 2 or 3 allocations before we recieve our first!
I also agree 1000 is a bit much but getting this on accesories is the right idea. But what about those who don't want accesories, what could be offerd to them?

I now make that 4 possibly 5 cancellations this week, just from those based on this forum.
Now it's possibly worse for us here as we know what is happening and realise that Mazda arn't providing feed back however that is balanced by the fact that most of us here are hard core RX-8 enthusiasts.
Therfore I don't think it's too much bending of the truth to extrpolate these numbers up, and that gives us, based on Mazda's performance to date, 150 cancellations this week, that's probably more cancellations than new orders.
We should include this in the letter, if it's not too late. After all if anything might make them realise how pissed of we are is the thought of 3,150,000 quid dissapering everytime they shaft the UK customers.

I am just adding in a bit about the cancellations now, although I will stick to what we know, I take your point and I will make reference to the potential loss.
i.e. 5 cancellations from 33 people equates to 150 cancellations from 1000 pre-orders...

The letter is in final production, I felt it was a little crass to demand £1000 or even £500 of options as compensation so I have included the following paragraph, if anyone has any issue with this then please post a reply before 6pm.
"As a valued customer, not only for the purchase of the vehicle but for options, servicing and the eventual upgrade of the car in a few years time I feel that some recompense would be appropriate. Some people I have spoken to on this matter suggest some form of up-grade, be it via dealer fitted options, to the car, or by the offering of free servicing for a period; I will leave this for you to decide. "
I also added the following paragraph as suggested by Titanium Grey
"One other point for you to note that I am aware of at least four pre-order customers have cancelled their order and a further two are seriously considering this course of action. Based on the number of pre-order customers who regularly post on the above forum, this represents approximately 15%, extrapolated to the 1000 or so pre-orders taken thus far this equates to 150 cancellations, or a potential loss of £3,300,000 in sales."
