Newbie to the forum

Just joined up tonight as I am SERIOUSLY thinking about buying my first RX8.

I have made enquiries on an '04 and an '05, both being sold privately and just wondering what to look out for.

I am not mechanically minded and will never be able to do work on the RX myself so I would also need some good advice on where I can have the car maintained.

I have been doing research on the internet and I have come across some info about engine replacement/rebuilds every 70K miles - can this be right?

I so so want an RX but I don't have bottomless pockets.

Any advice would really be appreciated.

Hopefully in the not too distant future I can become a "fully paid up" member of this forum as the proud owner of an RX.

Many thanks

Vincent

Hi all,

Just said I'd post this here in case someone might be interested.

I'm selling my 2007 Mazda6 MPS.

leinster rx8 owner

i've had my 8 since '07 but only in ireland since 2010 , it's been off the road since august '11 due to the road tax problem , i am seeing cars advertised in the auto trader as having 1.3 rotaries which is there true capacity , although most insurance companies class them as 2.6 , i called my local mazda dealer and they say that they are classed as 1.8 , any comments on this area would be interesting as road tax is way expensive over here.

Welcome to Ireland!

First of all, don't take any notice of what RX8s are advertised as, it has no bearing whatsoever on insurance or tax as they are all the same - taxed as 1.8 and insured as 2.6.

Here's what to do in order to get it taxed as a 1.3:

> Get an RF111 form from a Garda Station

> Fill out section 3 "Reclassification of Tax Bracket" and section 4 "change of engine".

> Leave the engine change date blank and use the current engine number.

> Bring it to a Mazda dealer to get it stamped and signed

> Take it to your local tax office and let them do the rest.

Often times, the dealers won't stamp it and if they do, the tax office could still have a problem with it but it's pretty hit and miss when it comes to both parties but if all goes well, this DOES work and your RX8 will then be taxed as a normal 1.3.

Hi guys... just got my red 2005 RX8 (5spd manual 192hp) a couple of weeks ago... nothing special with it at the moment.

Am just running a Pipercross filter and should finally finish installing my zunsport mesh grilles tomorrow.

Anyone around the Galway area? There seem to be a couple I see every day around Claregalway... but from reading on here it seems practically everyone on the forum is around Dublin.

Any meets in the planning?

I'm totally new to the rotary arena so I'm sure I've got every noob's questions:

Do you guys know any rotary specialists in Ireland? Also what do you run here in ireland in terms of oil? 5w30 or 10w40 oil? Full synthetic or semi? ... also anyone running any fuel mix (what do you use? where does one find Indemitsu around here?)... usual stuff I guess

Anyway, will leave it at that for now! Enjoy the weekend!

There's a new version of the dual DIN fascia available that has the electronics to support the climate control without the Bose headunit.

Check your local ICE dealer or ebay.

Hi all,

I've owned a RX8 192 from 2007-2009 and currently running a 230 (Blue Type S import) coming up on 12 months now, loving it! I've posted a few times on irishrotary.com and the lads at Shadow Rotary in Palmerstown, Dublin, have been great help!

Finding it hard to to research places for cosmetic repair...
- I bought the car a year ago with a scrapes around the wheel areas from car parks I assume, a crack on the body kit mud flip on the passenger side, and a few general chips around the paint work.
- I want to get the alloy wheels restored as new (debating on whether to go metallic black - they are currently stock with AWFUL kerbing damage to all 4), and will be slapping on 4 new tyres after this process.
- The interior plastics (particularly glove box) have a good few scrapes.

Can anyone recommend a one stop shop for the above? Even for everything less the alloys which I think would have to be specialist place.

While i'm here, just wondering if anyone else has a small whine from the engine/gearbox, particularly when revs are coming down from 5k to 2k in the same gear? This is beautifully mated to a very low hollow whistle when car is cold/radio off.

Any input on the above would be great! i'll post some pics later of the paint scuffs. (PS i'm in Dublin)

List of Rotary Specialists

Is there a definitive list anywhere? I know of Eddie Doyle but are there any in Dublin?

I was wondering the same myself? Been trying to get a contact for them but can't find it anywhere. If anyone knows how I could get in touch, I'd really appreciate some help
