How are you guys finding the mpg's?

Hey All,

Had my RX8 about 10 days now and really chuffed with it. My wife was gutted to give up the old MX5 but is now coming round to the new baby in the family!!

My only gripe is the MPG so far. I know its a sports car, and I have only filled it up a few times, but that needle moves a lot quicker than I wanted it to. Last tank only lasted 204 miles before the yellow light came on, although there was about 10 litres left in it. Currently I'm just under half a tank and only 125 miles. Drive to work is through town and then about 4 miles at 75mph on an A road. Not ideal I know but was interested in how everyone else is getting on.

Nice review on TG last night!!

I find the MPG by dividing my age by the number of wheels on the car... works out to ... uh wait..

My MPG has been anywhere from 23 to 18mpg. This car does NOT like urban driving, much preferes fast blasts on A roads I feel.

Shame I do mostly urban crawl lol.

I note there is a trip computer but nothing more sophisticated to allow an automatic consumption read-out either as an average or as one drives. Perhaps this is a good idea!

I must admit the mpg does worry me but I am probably happy not knowing if I am oinly getting 18mpg. Ignorance is bliss.

Hope you have all been checking your oil every 2nd fill.

24 on a run on the motorway at the weekend. Got 280 miles from full to light on.

Worst I have had was 16mpg when booting it about.

I am happy with 24mpg.

Well on my first tank I had a trip round the M25 and up the M1 to Leicester in heavy traffic, followed by several days commuting round Leicester in very heavy stop-go traffic.
Averaged 21mpg. Not too shabby.

24 on the second tank.

Oilman roughly the same figures as me, but I'm going in the other direction

Cheers

I'm missing the trip computer in my Volvo that told me average mpg (and was pretty accurate.) So far I know why the RX8 doesn't have one - anyone taking a testdrive would be scared witless if it did (unless they had a petrol company!)

seeing as the car is as quick as an M3 round the track i had a chat with a guy at work who has an M3.

consider (rough figures)

M3: £42,000
Rx8: £22,000

Now the M3 gets around 30mpg and the Rx8 23mpg
Average 10K miles per year
That's roughly £300-400/year extra in fuel.

How long before the fuel bill equals the price difference?

Answer: Longer than it takes to bring out the Rx9 :D

How does he manage that !!. I used to have an E46 M3 and 23mpg was all I got based on mixed driving. Has his M3 seen 4000 rpm yet ? Looks like the car is wasted on him.

1st tank refill @ 200 miles has given 20.6 mpg. 50/50 mix of town and motorway. Driven briskly on a regular basis to aid run in! Only 400 miles to go.
