Hi Guys, Let me introduce myself

Hi there new to these boards as I am in the throes of deciding which RX-8 colour and spec to choose.

I'm off the Scoobynet board (Hi Mark :D ) and have just today sold my Subaru Impreza.

Got the cheque for £1000 deposit but in two minds as to which colour to get. 240ps model definitely

I have narrowed it down to Velocity Red (With the Red and Black Leather) or Titanium Grey (Standard).

I see Mark and a few others have the same dilema.

Oh Jimbojoe I know you from the DVDforums too! PhilC on there. Small place this T'internet malarky.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Going down tomorrow for the 240ps model in velocity red with red and black leather.

I am in two minds whether to get my dad to roder the titanium with black and then decide which one when I have seen both.

Any comments?

Welcome.

Although only 4 colours initially available it is surprising the debate they have thrown up, especially as nobody has seen any of the cars in their respective colours and the vel red is an unknown colour. Site pictures are not true and cannot be relied upon.

IMHO I view the options as;

Black - looks great when clean, not so great 10 minutes afterwards and would need lot of cleaning to look its best.

Tit Grey - I liked this until I saw the colour on the Mazda 6 and found that it was surprisingly dark.

Silver - My initial choice but now possibly discarded because the colour is so common.

Vel red - has come into play as better pictures became available. This red can look quite dark and rich although under bright lights there is a slight orange tint to it. However, red is the only colour that also has a colour option interior.

So it may be red for me although the grey tit seems to be the favourite when looking around the site, esepcially in the US.

just wanted to let you know that as a hobbyist photographer, often times the impurities in aritificial light (like the strong yellow and red tendancies of tungsten fillament incandescent light) is usually filtered out significantly by our minds when we see it, but film on the other hand (because of it's imperfect nature: does not register all wavelengths equally well) magnifies these imbalances...
so, that slightly orange tint is a combination of the not-very-white lights which were shining on the car (look around in that photo... i know the ones you mean..., and everything was orange), and the film magnifying the contrast of those colours in the picture.

when seen in person, the colour will look quite red, and not very orange to say the least; your best bet is to have a look at the Vel Red pics that were taken outside (weren't some of the cars at Laguna Seca Vel.Red??)

Thanks for that input, what time you got out there?

What is 'quite' red, I was told by Mazda it would be a blood red which I presume to mean darker red as opposed to ligher.

Hi Phil,

Welcome across to the 'other' forum, its getting quite lively here and I probably spend more time on here than Scoobynet now.

Sounds like you have come to the sme conclusion as me, as I like the Tit grey but overal the Red wins out, partly because I dont like the all black leather interior.

Lets hope the RX-8 doesnt dissappoint us after our scoobies.

Cheers

Mark

Yeah the Imprezas are awesome car no doubt there. Mazda make some cracking car and as an ex Eunos owner

I am no stranger to their exceptional build quality, performance and reliability.

For me (and I'm sure most of you who have pre-ordered) the most surprising thing about the RX-8 was the price.

To have the performance, looks and handling all for £21,995 was very pleasing indeed. When I saw the car in the flesh at the NEC last year I was dreaming of it (thinking like the RX-7 it was going to be list of around £35k) and definitely did not think I would be in this situation only six months down the line.

I am off down there in five minutes cheque in hand and am going to order the 240ps in velocity red with leather.

I am young and a car like this will look very good in red. Silver and titanium is just too conservative and MOR for someone like me :D

Saying that I am very biased cos my Scooby was in flame red.

I'll keep you all posted as I'm sure you will.

Can you get 2-tone leather and still specify an all black steering wheel?
I've ordered the 2-tone, but I really don't like the red steering wheel. Can I get that changed ???

I should add that I think the dealer response will be no as it does not say so anywhere but once the orders have been processed tomorrow then we will be dealing with Mazda direct and presumably having a order number will allow us to discuss our cars and what I would consider a easy change like that.

Otherwise black paint should do it.

Jimbo I have not been guaranteed but when the dealer filled out the New vehicle order form he added a sentence under "Accessories to be fitted"

Now I don't know how difficult it will be for them to remove a wheel from a black leather spec car and have it fitted but will have to wait and see.

Ring your dealer before he puts the order in tomorrow and specify that you want a black leather steering wheel. It's hardly rocket science is it? :D

Don't forget that all the cars are built to customer requirements and will be phoned through tomorrow. Adding comments to the accessories column on the form is a good way of specifying requirements.

I personally don't see any issues with swapping a red trimmed wheel for one from the non Red leather option.

Im OK with the red/black wheel. I think it will need regular cleaning though, or alternatively I should wear driving gloves!

It seems simple that they should swap it for a black one, but I guess it depends upon how automated their production is and whether their systems can cope with manual instructions.

After all, we can't specify a red or tan interior unlike other parts of the world, and you would think that would not be too difficult either!

Cheers
