Has This Forum Saved Your Order?

I have to say, the answer for me is definately yes. If i had not been able to hear first hand accounts of happy new owners, first in Japan back in April time, then in the US this summer, my resolve would have waned long ago.

Also the fact that 'misery loves company' surely has helped. Knowing that this long wait has not been alone, and we can share our sorrow has definately helped me through.

Wondered if anyone else felt the same? Someone post a poll!

Yes, I think it has helped. There has been good and bad news, but there has always been some info to keep us going.

I think if I had been waiting since January and relied on the website and the 3 letters or so from Mazda, I would have got bored and be driving an S2000 or similar by now.

I guess its helped but the fact is I cant see a viable alternative in the market right now, which is good news for mazda sales wise.

I'm not sure I would have cancelled but it's certainly made the wait and lack of info easier. I would hate to think what it is like for all those pre-order customers who have only had the official contact from Mazda to go on during the wait.

Apparently one such bloke went into my dealer yesterday:

"oh, so the cars have arrived then"

dealer- "no, these are press cars, here for the weekend for test drives"

"right then, either you give me one of those cars until mine arrives in December or i'm cancelling"

dealer - "sorry sir that won't be possible"

So the guy cancelled there and then, didn't even have a test drive. I'm sure if he did then he's have waited a little longer.

Yes I'd agree with that. I would not have waited had I only had the information that Mazda had sent out.

We will have to wait to see if that was a good thing

Yes, stumbling acroos this forum has indeed helped keep my interest in the 8.

However, an M5 is waiting in the wings and is available right now (family member), fully optioned but slightly pricier than the 8. I have been sorely tempted for 3 weeks. Family M5 making way for Porsche Cayenne S (why ?). On that note, the Porsche garage have got him a car for this month, and he only had to wait 2 months from placing the order!! Theres service.

Nope, just confirmed suspicions about poor performance and low fuel economy - order cancelled.

So, what am I doing here you may ask? Ever watched police-camera-action?

OK, I'll bite....

Assuming you did look at the performance figures before you ordered, what exactly constitutes "poor performance" in an RX8?

I found the forum entertaining, educational, exciting, at times erroneous but normally equitable.

I think I would have stayed in the queue anyway but in ignorance, I waited 9 months for my previous car. Great information though and lots of highs and lows as developments occur.

I cant say that the forum has saved my order but it has certainly helped me to make up my mind and order an RX8. :D

I've found more useful information here than from Mazda marketing brochures (such as they are) and trips to dealers in my area. Without doubt the people on the Europe forum alone know far more about the car than any of the salesmen I've spoken to.

I also somehow feel that I'm taking less of a "risk" with the car by seeing how enthusiastic and committed other people are.
Sort of validates my decision!

.. and it's just plain "good" to be able view (and laterly share) opinions and news with a group of people with a common interest!

I ordered as a result of reading the forum for a few days as I wasn't sure if i could afford to squander 23k (well i was positive I could but the wife wasn't!!!!!)

The info & enthusiasm gave me the courage to face up to my demons (not that my wife is a demon of course!)

No. But, I joined very late and ordered quite late (may) as well. If I had odered way back in Jan or before I think the forum would have certainly helped me stick firm with the order.

Whilst the forum hasn't directly saved my order, it has helped me keep the faith. (Despite the odd waiver in the direction of the 147GTA)

Not really, the car is now officially available. I'm sure once the RX-8 has been available and on the road for several months that orders will only take 2 months to arrive.

If it wasn't for this Forum, I would probably gone a long time ago as I'm sure we're getting more "unofficial" info from MAZDA than any non-forum pre-orders.

Just praised MAZDA but I'm praising the POWER OF THE FORUM!!

Cheers

I agree with Oilman here. If it hadn't been for the info on the forum I would be in another new car now.

It also seems that it IS getting feedback to Mazda and as such it isn't a bad thing. But sadly at the moment, any new info is a bit sparse.
