Got my delivery week!!

Got confirmation today on my delivery week, not exact date as this will depend in part on the dealer prep and delivery to me. I have been told that my dealer will receive my car week commencing the 10th November which will mean I get my car a week later w/c 17th November.

I would at this point like to thank Mazda's Manager of fleet sales for getting the answers to the questions in such a timely manner. it has restored some faith in Mazda who up until today still hadn't confirmed my order let alone sent welcome pack, book or picture. I have now been assured all this has been sorted out and it is all being sent out together to me.
I am told my car was made on Sep 12th and shipped a day or 2 later. Apparently there are a lot of boats constantly shipping cars of all different Japanese manafacturers from Japan into Africa and Europe, there will be frequent arrivals of cars on boats as there will be often several arriving in a week with cars. I'm told there is no way that mazda would risk putting hundreds of one model car on a single boat in case of a problem (as happened with all those BMW's and Volvo's a while back).
I was also told that my car is not on the first of the boats to leave so there is a good chance i would have thought that some of you guys will see your cars in the first or second week of November. One critical factor in the delivery time is the speed at which dealers do the pre delivery work, there is a better chance getting a car earlier if you are one of say 6 orders than say 1 of 40 at another garage, this is obvious but something to bear in mind as garages will not have too much spare capacity to do the prep work all at once.

One last point, my order is a fleet order and was the first fllet order in the country which is why I may be a bit ahead on the delivery schedule compared to my order date (June).Of course it may turn out that I end up with my car a few weeks later, i guess we will know when you start to get your dates in the hopefully near future.

Anyway I feel happy that at least i know when the car is coming and as i am on holiday for the first 2 weeks of Nov it will be nice to come home to a new car as opposed to the usual post holiday blues.

Cheers,

Ed

A truly momentous post - how does it feel to be the first to know? Demonstrates the strength of bulk-buying power. Who's your fleet operator, is it one of the big lease companies, or your own employer?
Cynics amongst us might think you have been given optimistic news but I think there is a lot of sense in what you wrote.
Cant be long for the rest of us based on what you said.

Agreed - a post to end all posts - we are all green with envy - but good on you.

For the rest of us - let's hope that this is good news and that we will get the cars soon.

You may be the first in the UK to actually get hold of the car - we'll wait and see.

It makes me think that our letters shouldn't be too far away. It has made me think how Mazda can supply us with a delivery date when it is dependant on when the dealership can complete the PDI, I doubt Mazda are taking on that logistical nightmare so I suspect the date Mazda will give us is when the car is arriving at the dealership...

If your car shipped on the 14th September and shipping time from Hiroshima is 31 days: It should arrive at some port on 15th September. Given what you said about not being one of the first we should be expecting other cars arriving over the next week or so.

Let's see who can get a picture/video of cars arriving at port first!

Good news indeed - many congrats !

Also the bit about dealer prep is important. I think my dealer (which is pretty damn small) has sold 40 or so.
However - I know I was their first deposit , and in earlier communications they assured me that I would be dealt with first on anything that happened , i.e. news distribution etc (if there were any) was dealt with in the order of the orders (if you see what I mean).

I am seeing the dealer tomorrow , so I will certainly be enquiring whether I can expect to get my car first too! If they all arrive at once , and it takes a day to prep each car then that alone could add an extra month.

Will let you know....

M.

PS - Oh , will also get them to check for VINs while I am there. And get my fantastic print (which I have not collected yet !)

The print isn't a classic but it's not that bad either. If nothing else you can keep it in the wrapper (which has your order number) as a future saleable collectible item. The frame's OK.

Well done Copperband, lets hope by this time next week we all know our delivery weeks.

I know they are searching for a new Dr Who at the moment, is this mr_digital_uk throwing his hat in the ring?

Thanks for the comments guys.
First to answer the Q on fleet operator, the car is bought by the company I work for but this is facilitated through Leaseplan.
When I order something that is so important to me I am a bit like a dog with a bone.
I think the reason I got a date from them was due to me getting the contact of the head of fleet sales and then giving him a list of firstly my disatisfactions and secondly my needs interms of information.I also added to the conversation that I had 2 other work colleagues looking at the RX8, but they had been somewhat put off my the lack of progress on my order. the guy i spoke with was a decent guy and did take the time over 24hours to speak to all the people necessary to get answers to my q's.

I would guess that Mazda will issue delivery dates to the dealers, because as stated on the other posts it would be very difficult to plan the dealers time.
My advice is to get on the dealers back and press them for commitment on when they will get your car prepped and ready for collection.

Lastly if the dealers are collecting their cars on October 27th from Silverstone and I am due to get mine 3 weeks later, there must be a load of cars arriving in between which must be the earlier orders although it was intimated to me that the spec has quite a bearing on things as well, ie paint colour, interior, satnav and Moonroof.

Cheers,

Ed

Chris,

Thanks for spotting the deliberate mistake - should have read 15th October.

Mind you, wouldn't it be nice?
