Front-light washers

The great new pictures posted (in superb resolution) show a rectangle mound under front-lights. Are the washers hidden under that?

If so the TT has a similar contraption out of which the washers poke forced out by water pressure (the washers strange appearance has resulted in them being called the 'aliens') and the retract again. The driver can never actually see them appear unless somebody else is working the controls.

I think that is the case.

The washers are required by law for the Xenon Headlights, so I assume the standard power versions will not have them as they are equipped with Halogen headlights.

As I know nothing about Xenon headlights could someone please explain why there's a legal requirement for washers?

this is just a guess mind you. one of the reasons drivers dislike seeing Xenon's coming at them is the dispersal of light around the edges which causes the "glare" associated with them. one of the ways used to lessen this glare is the autoleveling. perhaps dust and dirt getting on the lenses causes more light dispersion and therefore more "glare". thus having the pissers (as they are known here in the states) wash the dust off lessens the problem.

I think they could find themselves disconnected....

Last thing I want over my freshly and lovingly polished RX8 is 2 streaks of soapy water running back at me up the bonnet ! (hood to some of you)

They should only work when the lights are on and then only when the front window washers are used ie they will not mess up your bonnet unless you need to clear your window (in which case presumably you would also need you lights to be cleaned) Mr Rogers.
