Extra's > RIP OFF BRITAIN!!! Arghhh!!!
Is it me or are we in the UK getting ruddy ripped off again!
Lo and behold I checkout the "20 RX8's on a car lot in the USA"
thread
And all of the models come with a looped spoiler
Front / Side / Rear air dams
and probably a whole array of other addons
and what do we bloody get - a catalogue stating that they are
all friggin extra's (oh and a silly bloody spoiler like a bit of left
over boot - stuck to the boot)
and I bet (excuse me for this) those ruddy yanks get all this
**** for free and pay less!!!!
Someone please correct me on this - because at this moment
in time i'm seriously considering telling Mazda to stick there bloody
order up their tailpipe
Last but not least
Mazda sent a letter to my girlfriends father to inform him that
his car was arriving in October a week ago - I got a letter at the same time telling me I'm getting mine in November
Both Model's are the High Powered Version
His is Tit Grey - with leather & sat nav
mine is Velocity Red - with 2 tone leather & sat nav
They have both been ordered from "The same dealership"
John Pease in Braintree
go figure! what the hell is going on? didn't know the colour
grey was faster than red???!!!!

Renoir,
The US cars come in various trim levels, but none of them come with the spoilers & air sams as std. They have what they call the 'appearance pacakge' which adds all these items to the car at extra cost.
You will find that the UK cars are more highly specced than the US (for example we get the 6CD and Bose as std) so we cant complain about spec.
As for price well the Us is a different market and the RX-8 is still compteitively priced in the UK.
With regard delivery dates, everyone in the UK on here has been given a date of November or later, so yours is about right. Mazda have stated these dates are optimistic and will be giving out more detailed dates soon
If your girlfriends father has a date of October then this is the first one weve seen.

Thanks for the feedback
> Addons
I got the addons brochure from seeing the car at the preview day
but I didn't get a list of prices - none were available
Any of you chaps out there got a price list? post it please if u do
I will certainly not buy any addons until I have waited about
6 months - chances are I'll get completely screwed on the prices
to start off with
> Plus the MazdaSpeed body kit knocks spots off the addons airdams - I went onto the Mazda/mazadaspeed site and it works
out about £2,500 for the lot on import - also some other companies are doing special deals if you shop around
You'll have to get a local body shop to fit it > I wouldn't expect it
would invalidate any warranty - I'm in 2 minds whether to ask the dealership - as they may spot an opportunity to be difficult about it
No companies I know do Mazdaspeed in the UK - but that's what I've come to expect from living in "Vanilla" Britain - we more often than not get overlooked
I know Japanese culture is more evolved in terms of customising
cars - but I seriously think there is a market in the UK for this stuff
I can't understand why Mazda don't do some work and find out
if we want it or not

Body kits are a matter of taste. For example I wouldnt dream of having one because I like the pure shape of the car and don't think it needs tarting up. But for those who do (eg. readers of MaxPower magazine?!) the option should be there, but of course it will cost, thats Business for you.
Also, I saw a thread on the USA site complaining about our Prodrive day we get for free. Thats worth a reasonable amount so, swings and roundabouts.
And dont forget the book and the print. And people say there's no such thing as a free lunch!
Can you get hold of this October letter? Call me cynical but I think someone might have screwed up somewhere along the line.

I'm happy with the spec, it's a lot of car for the money. :D
When I ordered mine in Feb I didn't think I was getting heated seats or headlamp washers so I'm now getting more spec for the same money.
I also can't believe how nice the interior is in the 8. I currently have a 2002 M3 Coupe and to be perfectly honest do not like the interior trim, it's tacky and uses crap plastics. Oh and it cost £20K more than the RX-8.
If you know anyone who fancies a cheap, well looked after M3 drop me note. Ta.

As a cheaper alternative to a full body kit buy the front and back wheel colour coordinated spray defectors (mudflaps) which make the wheel arches look more impressive. That besides a bigger spoiler is probably all I intend to do on the larger scale.

No Mazdaspeed kit in the UK?
I'd beg to differ, seeing as my Mazdaspeed kit was received today. I ordered it with my car (annoying that the kit arrives before the car tho! lol)
I'll post pictures up tonight when I get back home.

Ordered through my Mazda dealer, at the same time I ordered the car.
They have their own means of importing the kit since it is not being brought in "officially" to this country.
To my knowledge, they have 2 kits ordered in every colour, so if anyone else is interested it may be worth getting on the phone to them to see what they can do.

I am not a number, well except EP 21, and just because I have ordered a car which I have not seen or driven with a unique engine I don't fully understand and a delivery date I have no control over which some higher authority keeps dangling in front of me before extending, I do not feel boxed in or left in the dark or utterly helpless and if I try really hard can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Me a prisoner, never!

Hi sixspeed,
Please could you let us have some more info about your mazdaspeed kit... how much (including fitting), exactly what parts you're getting, and who your dealer is?
I'm getting excited again ! :D

Price is still unconfirmed (but I ordered it regardless - I had to have it! :D), parts include the complete aero kit, comprising of replacement front bumper, rear diffuser, side skirts, replacement mirrors, and rear spoiler.
I did not order the wheels, since I'm undecided and like the standard ones enough not to worry about changing them yet.
They can also order and of the other Mazdaspeed parts if required (suspension, interior/exterior trim, roll bars/braces etc).
I ordered through T W Whites of Bookham, and spoke to the manager of the dealership. In fact, he didn't know about the kit at first. I gave him the info from the Mazdaspeed website and he loved it so much he brought some back when he went out to Japan for their RX-8 launch. lol.
I'm popping down there on the way home from work to get some pics of the kits. I'll try and get an idea on the price then, if I can!

I understand that Mazda UK are still negotiating the price of the accessories - they are trying to drive them down - possibly due to the feedback from this forum (or possibly not !)

Don't do it
I don't understand this whole bodykit thing. Mazda spend millions of punds and countless man-hours making sure the car looks fantastic and people think that adding some second rate plastic spoilers and in yer face wheels make the car better!
I don't think so ...:D

Some bodykits do look awful, but IMHO the Mazdaspped kit does really make the RX8 look agressive. :D
I would have one tomorrow if I could afford to justify throwing away £2.5k but unfortunately I cant

Renoir,
Do you know that there are A LOT of us here in Canada and in the US would KILL for that European Spoiler ?
In my opinion, I think it looks absolutely fantastic and blends in so well with the lines of the car. Add a lot of Class to the car I think.
Well, I guess its true, we always want thing that we cannot have.
