Dealers Update

Just spoke to my dealer, just a couples of points (believe as you feel fit);

- Lower power is due to de-tuning to match EU rules from higher. Possibility that dealers could tune up afterwards without costs or warranty problems.

- Possibility of bolting on a turbo to increase torque (up to 300 hp)as after market product. Warranty situation unclear

- UK launch now delayed to Sept BUT existing (EP) customer orders will not be delayed and delivered in Aug. So I will get my car before the dealer does!

- Dealers are in the dark but beleive that Mazda UK are no better informed.

-There will be a special dedicated RX8 area in each showroom withn a car plus all accessories.

"- Lower power is due to de-tuning to match EU rules from higher. Possibility that dealers could tune up afterwards without costs or warranty problems."

Possible? I hope so, so long as theres no warrently issues. it is what we have paid for, and no reason for us to comply with euro 4 emmisions as yet.

"- Possibility of bolting on a turbo to increase torque (up to 300 hp)as after market product. Warranty situation unclear"

I dont think Mazda will go anywhere near a turbo rotary for a [ilong[/i] time. Looking at the engine bay and cooling already I think you'd have to be mad to strap on a turbo inthe first 3-4 years.

"- UK launch now delayed to Sept BUT existing (EP) customer orders will not be delayed and delivered in Aug. So I will get my car before the dealer does! "

Oh cool. I get my car but before I've driven one? Wierd. least there putting pre-orderers before dealers. Not best situation for either tho.

"- Dealers are in the dark but beleive that Mazda UK are no better informed."

Dealers usualy cant find their own *** anyhow. Personaly I think mazda dont know 100% whats happenng so cant filter the info down.

I would have thought by now they could pin down delivery to 1-2 weeks. least let us know full specs and extra's prices etc.

"-There will be a special dedicated RX8 area in each showroom withn a car plus all accessories."

All accessories on the car? be a neat ex-dem model...

Interesting in the August quote.

see my other posts after speaking (indirectly) to the head of RX8 for UK which said noone will get any before September.

If Rael does, and we will see with the postings of dates in the next few days, then we will be able to put the EP issue to bed too....

Ive just contacted my dealership and they have an official internal memo that states (they got this yesterday - came from the director of the dealership)

Europe is the 3rd launch site for the rx8 initial pre-orders have not reached expectations around 1060 units pre-ordered.

European cars are to be built in July and expected delivery is at least 36 days after build.

Mazda employees in the UK will be able to see the car on the 8th September which puts us back at least until Mid September.

Official motoring press launch is between 18th -25th July in North Wales (OF ALL PLACES!!!!)

Order numbers will play a major factor in it, because cars are allocated on a first come first serve basis. (at the moment they dont) The early the order was placed the more likely you will get the car first.

There will be a further 600 units delivered each month thereafter at least until December. If you want to test drive the car before you buy then dont expect to purchase before 2004

One other point of interest which the dealership said that the pro-drive is for the first 1000 pre-orders only.

He also said that the prodrive wasnt expected to be in our own cars but he wasnt sure. He was led to believe it was Mazda provided.

Do you have a copy of this memo? Can it be scanned in?

Obviously the order numbering is a hot topic, I dont care aboutt he delivery dates as "at least" means nothing to me.

Which dealership is it also please?
cheers

Got this email today from Mazda uk.....

Hi Ed
your pack is currently in production and will be in the post on Friday. Your Mazda RX-8 development book will then be delivered to your dealer next week. I am currently reviewing the letter to go to customers advising of the current status of their orders and you should receive this next week.
As it stands all high powered vehicles are to be delivered in September, all low power vehicles are to be delivered in October and all blue, yellow and green vehicles are to be delivered in November.
Any questions please give me a call.
Regards

I have to say how amazed I am at the sheer qty of misinformation. As has been said before this has been a PR disaster for Mazda with most prospective customers knowing more than the salesman at the garage or even the person answering the phone at mazda HO.
I ordered my car yesterday (company car) through Leaseplan (although they just facilitate the purchase as the company I work for actually buys their cars) i spoke to the fleet manager at the garage which is their "prefered supplier" who has been very helpful, I was however disappointed when he said he'd been on the phone to mazda 3 times that morning and they had told him that everyone ordering in the past few weeks and in the future will at the earliest get their cars in October. Given the choice i would have ordered a long time ago but had to wait to achieve a certain milage first. One question I have for those who have like me ordered very recently is what sort of date have you been given.
i just read a post saying that all HP cars will be sold in Sep, LP in Oct and other colours after that.if that does turn out to be the case I should be in a more positive pos with a Sep delivery. at the end of the day who knows

This is consistant with a lot of the info I got at MotorExpo - even as specific as Sept 8th as the internal release date. I was laso told the same thing about Prodrive possibly being in Mazda supplied cars (if they had enough.)

Looks like hes a got a week in the Algarve

Hence maybe why he is trying a tad harder than maybe most to get the info.

And im such a nice guy

The last official release to dealers dated may from Mazda UK (posted on this forum) stated September for High Power.

This I believe is the true story, If I get it in August it'll be a bonus but not expecting it.

Cheers
