buying a RX 8

I am totally new to the RX8 world. Before I dive head first, can anyone give me an honest assessment of what I can expect from the car? Good bad and ugly!!!

Thanks in addvance. jsbreaux@yahoo.com

Your post looked lonely, so I thought I'd reply to it ;o)
I've had my RX8 for nearly 3 months, and I have only 2 complaints:

1. The switches for the heated seats are very badly positioned. It's far too easy to turn them on by accident while changing gears. You'll know this has happened when the air-con is blowing full-blast arctic wind in your face, frosticles forming on your eyebrows, and you suddenly start SWEATING!
2. It's not a convertible.

Very minor niggles on an otherwise great car, but there are some things you should be aware of:
It's very thirsty. I usually get about 24 MPG (25 if I drive like an OAP)
You need to top up the oil (5W30) regularly.
Be careful about who you let into the back seat: If they've never been in (or seen) an RX8 before, they will try to manhandle the pasenger seat forward! Open the rear door for them and watch their expression.
Some people will make fun of your engine. Here are a couple of my standard responses:

"Actually, as the inventor was German, I think you'll find it's pronounced VAHNKEL."

"It works on magic. By my understanding of the laws of physics, that thing should blow itself apart as soon as you start it, but it doesn't so it MUST be magic. Unfortunately, the magic runs on petrol, and it uses a lot of it."

I can see only few minuses. RX8 consumes a lot of oil, and second is limited liability of the engine, there are not a lot of X'es with more then 150 000km on the ODO and with original engine.

Eitherway it's a great weekend car
