Audio

Has anyone spent time looking at the audio options. In the Uk I am aware we are getting the BOSE system with 6 CD changer.

Couple of questions;

a) Does anybody have an opinion on the BOSE.

b) I understabd that all 6 CD's will be loaded into the main slot ie there is no stand alone cartridge

c) I'm hoping for a tape slot too but not seen that as an option or as a feature in any pictures.

Any ideas?

The pictures I have seen only show CD. I haven't seen a tape slot at all.

If all 6 disks are held in the head unit then I really don't think there will be a tape unit as well.

BOSE = excellent sound quality

Tape??? Wuhhh???

Sorry, couldn't resist it...
Well every review of the RX-8's audio system says that it is excellent and has serious bass and control. Believe it or not this is one thing that brought me to the RX-8 from my interest in the 350Z. The Z's stereo (whilst still a Bose/Celestion) is universally regarded as crap and it has no wheel mounted controls. Also I heard that the RX-8's system is tailored to the vehicle specifications: so if you get leather they adjust the EQ, likewise if you have the sunroof etc. Sounds (pun intended) good!

Bose?

jimbobjoe: BOSE do NOT make quality car audio, they a triumph of style over substance. In some vehicles they might be adequate but in others they are substandard. The 350Z's stereo has been reviewed as follows: 'We had trouble making it sound as good as an AM clock radio' (and they meant it). That was the 240watt system too!

If you hear the sound system of Bose in a Acura NSX it sound good.. But it can never beat the aftermarket speakers and amps and Subs.. I still have some MTX Speakers, Amps, Subs.. So if it sounds like crap I can always change it. And for starters.. better Bose then nothing

The same concludion was reached by the TT owners forum. They are very divided on the BOSE issue. Some like it and consider it one of the best factory fitted kits, other are not keen and first thing they did was change the head unit which was a bit of a pain to do.

I got used to it now but it lacks bass IMHO. Maybe that is because their is very little air to move around the TT cabin but it seemed there was good bass on radio and some types of CD music, very little on others (and I am not and drum & bass fan).

Perhaps BOSE have done better job on the RX8 as its a newer model, I certainly hope so.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the stereo has a digital tuner.

Now does that mean we can pick up digital stations, or is it just reffering to the accuracy of the frequency locating electronics.

Anybody have anymore info.

I agree that Bose is not audiophile equipment, but Im sure the system will be more than good enough for me, especially as it was designed ground up in the car.

Anything must be better than the crap that comes standard in a Subaru

One thing I really want though is MP3. I have an MP3/CD palyer in the car now and love it. I can get 10/12 albums on 1 CD.

I would be chuffed if the RX8 Bose system played MP3 or there is an option to upgrade it.

BOSE? its going to be plenty good enough for me. It may not be upto Enrique and Blue for the missus though, that could cause problems

Anyway who cares, I've got the sound of 240 horses to the rear wheel driven by one of the finest and lightest engines ever developed and the rasp of twin exhaust pipes.

In that company the Bose is going to sound shittee!!!

Digital Tuner

The reference to Digital Tuner most probably means it's a digital tune lock system rather than a digital audio broadcast (dab) system. The latter receives digital signals the former analogue signals. A dab tuner would be nice but highly unlikely on the grounds of cost if nothing else!

Plenty good enough for me and I've over 3000 cds!

Cheers

Agreed!

Believe it or not, the audio system was one of the major selling points of this car to me. I wanted a 350Z but the stereo is disastrous and has no wheel mounted controls. Combine that with the high ambient noise of the Z and you can see why I went Mazda. I intend to copy all the discs I want to play and only use the copies in the car. I have an MD player in my current car which achieves the same results (with less quality at the speakers).

Original Cds...?!

I'm more concerned that the local bandits will also take the original CDs. I can replace the car but a lot of my discs are very rare!

Without the ignition keys they will have to probably have to rip half the car interior out as the unit will be intergral.

I'd worry more how much a new rear window is going to cost.

Rear window replacement

For such eventualities was comprehensive insurance born. Not that I'd really prefer to experience it.
Good point about the discs but what if the whole car is stolen (despite the security)?
