95 RON fuel

Meant to post this the other day.....

In the last specs thing Mazda sent out , it clearly says "At least 95 RON fuel".
So Renesis should be fine on the cheaper stuff ! (phew)

As a 98ron Optimax man at the moment , this is a big deal to me !

This may have been covered , but if it has - I missed it...

Morgan.

I think this has been mentioned before and the concensus at the time that the use of Optimax or similar would yeild slightly better performance.

But normal unleaded will suffice.

I remember that - but did'nt know we had decided 95 was OK.

Old rotaires needed low octane fuel , so the super stuff would hurt them - seems Renesis doesn't mind then....

Seems like US drivers are getting good results out of their 87 octane, instead of the higher stuff.

Guess it depends on temp / atmos etc.

Thanks, I hadn't spotted that.

I'll probably use Optimax anyway, but it is nice to have the option.

I've seen on canzooemr's epic thread that the US press/dem cars were JDM spec ECu's with thrit 100cotane rated fuel (not sure what this equates to here).

Aparently the engineeds went mad when they heard cali was 91 octane fuel, and made sure they were all filled up with 100.

So one wonders.

Canzoomers also doing amazing stuff re - performance. looks like hes getting close to 230bhp at the wheels already with fuel/ ignition changes (add on unit).

Sounds great - esp as he's 100% sure the exauhst is holding quite a few more ponies up ( replaceat or before incution it seems). I've seen 15bhp from an exauhst too.

With his update and exauhst/induction, we might even see 240+ at the wheels, that'd be nice!

It's interesting that from Canzoomers thread it seems the overly rich mixture of the US cars is down to the requirement for the cars to pass emissions tests at 120,000 miles (or at least this seems to be the favorite explanation). The rich mixture keeps the cat cool and thus preserves its life.

The Euro 4 regulations only apply for the first 63,000 miles (100,000 km) so maybe we are not so badly affected. Plus, Mazda have had a few months to come up with some better ECU code (the stuff in the US models seems very crude). Maybe we will see 228 hp (stock) after all?

Asked my Dealer what they were running the demo that I drove on and he stated 95ron which is the recommended fuel.

Cheers
