Car Arrived in Dartmouth Today? *Updated: Now with Pics!

Well, just to relieve some pressure on Pooch's thread (as well as free it up for people who don't have their cars yet to track things) I decided to start this new thread.

A friend of mine's father works for CN out of the yard in Dartmouth. I gave him the rail car numbers and asked him to go check things out.

Anyway, he went and tracked down the rail cars in the yard and provided me with the following:
(*Side Note: There is something hilarious about answering the phone and a 50+ year old man says nothing but, "Well, it's pretty f**king badass..." )

There are a total of 9 cars between 2 rail cars.
(This seems to mesh with the 6 confirmed cars we had amongst ourselves, plus the 3 unkown dealerships.)

Anyway, according to him, the rail cars will be unloaded before noon today in Dartmouth.
However, he does not yet have word on when the Autoport will get them to a position where they can then be picked up for delivery.

I'm still working on that, and since I'm the closest, well, I feel it's my responsibility. Thanks guys... I'll let you know once I get more details.

Well, on my way back to the office from a customer meeting, I managed to take the scenic route past the AutoPort.
Drove up and down the road in there, but no sign of a cluster of RX-8s.
Doesn't mean they weren't there, but it's a huge complex, so it's possible I just couldn't see them.

Mills Mazda in Truro heard from their Mazda contact that AutoPort is supposed to clear the cars late this afternoon. However, that may mean they aren't available for pickup until tomorrow morning. I'm not sure.

I'll let you guys know as I find out more. (In between trying to make a living so I can pay for this thing. )

thanks for all the great work.
I'm relying on you to keep me sane now.

The work thing isn't all that important anyway

Redshift,

Thanks for the update!

I just got back from finalizing all the paperwork, with tomorrow's date on it, so they'd better be ready for pickup tomorrow morning:D

And yeah, the work isn't all that important, unless you are working on something for us....

I can't seem to get a straight answer from my dealer on when these cars will be available for pickup .... my dealer says the cars won't be available for pickup in Halifax/Dartmouth until Monday, same day they could be picked up in St. John's anyway.

Redshift - you talked to Mills, I'm going to give Steele a ring (Keith Macneil is the guy I'll be talking to). Will update shortly.

Sounds good.
I've got my Sales Guy at Steele (Tim Johnston) pushing on Mazda right now to release the cars as well.

Mind you, like I pointed out.. they are parked with the keys in them, I have it paid for, and it's insured already. We should just go take it... He didn't really agree though...

Steele says same as Mills - cars will likely be available for dealer pick up tomorrow (Friday) IF your dealer agrees to do that for you. You will have to ask for it, otherwise you won't see you car until Monday/Tuesday.

Trying to arrange airfare/ferry now - if Steele can get the car for me tomorrow, I aim to be there.....

I've got a 2004 6-spd Titanium Grey RX-8 with Black and Chaparral leather interior to pick up - I cannot be expected to kep track of silly trivialities like what damn day of the week it is!!!

My mistake - cars can be picked up as early as tomorrow, Thursday. Happy?

not as happy as you should be sorry, stuff like that just sticks out at me... i just wanted to clear up any potential confusion and eliminate any potential for unecessarily being without the car. :D

Are you being told that your cars should be ready for pickup in NF on Monday?

I was told that it would take around a week to get it to PEI.
Shouldn't it be longer to the rock?

probably depends on size and frequency of ferries, and how soon the cars got to the port of departure by rail.

Yeah - if I wait for the car to come to Nfld it will be loaded on the container ship departing Halifax on Friday. Unloaded in port @ St. John's on Sunday evening, released to dealer on Monday.

Seems like you should be able to get it much sooner than a week to PEI. Hassle your dealer....

Took a little run by the Autoport on the way home from work:

Definately looks like Silver and Titanium were the in-demand colour.

.. and this is what was waiting for me when I dropped by the dealership...

Wow, great shots.

That looks like 3 Ti, 3 Silver, 2 Black, and one red still in the yard, plus your blue makes 10.
I'm surprised, not a yellow in sight.

So, have you had the blue out yet?
If so, you planning on heading toward New Glasgow, just for something to do? :D

Did you happen to see which one of those Ti cars was on it's way to Spud island?

I just want to be able to point and actually know which one is MINE!

Thanks Redshift!!

Hey Guys!! What is the name of the dealer in your area of Eastern Canada that was offering accessories at a good discount?
I am trying to put a list together of all the dealers willing to give something back to the new RX8 owners!

Thanks!!

Thanks guys! I have more shots then that from the AutoPort, but I didn't have the webspace to post them all up.

There are 2 more cars not accounted for in those shots, for a total of 12. A yellow one that went to Steele with my car, and a Silver one that went to Mills in Truro.

I drove my car around the building, but that was about it. It's PDId, but still needs to have all the shipping crap cleaned off. I'm picking it up at 9AM tomorrow, then heading to Truro to get my accessories installed.
What time you hitting town, Jasper?

ffjaydee: Mills Mazda in Truro, NS are offering Dealer Cost + 15% on all RX-8 Accessories. Talk to Brad, tell him David Earle (me) on the RX-8 forum sent them. Great guy, and he'll take care of them.

I'm not sure when I'm heading to Dartmouth yet; it kind of depends on the dealer.
How long do you think you'll be at Mills, and what accessories are you getting tomorrow?
If you are still there when I go by (one way or the other) I might try to stop in.
And once you are done in Truro you should head on up to New Glasgow; maybe hook up with bgparsons3, since he'll be going through tomorrow as well. Some shots of the three cars together would be sweet.

I'll PM you my cell number. Give me a call if you do happen to plan to take a drive up.

I just realized I lost my brain... my car is here and I'm not thinking clearly. No contact info...
www.millsmazda.ca
Brad Mills is my contact, so he can speak with some authority.
902-897-3400

They have a 1-800 number as well, but I don't have that at hand.

Estimated length of stay at Mills is about 3 hours.
I'm getting the air dam, side and rear deflectors installed (along with the cargo net.

I'm supposed to get to Mills tomorrow at 9AM (guy finishing up my car comes in at 8).
I'd imagine that will get me out of there around 9:30 -10:00 after paperwork and such. Hope to get to Mils around 11...
