I was 3 weeks off over seas in the begining of the year and when got back the battery was gone. Now again another 3 weeks and the new battery already has signs of weekness. Anything I am doing wrong?
Another thing that I would like to mention, is when I try to check the oil level, the oil looks fomy and is hard to see the level do to that...my rx7 did not do that, even tought the oil was 10w30 not 5w20 like rx8. what is the best way to chek that oil level?

The numbers you are quoting are in line with market, so you're not going to find much better out there.

Good luck

Go on Kijiji, there's a few motors on sale right now that are still in the car ready for removal. Like $1500 bucks or something. I would get them compression tested first, but miles are relatively low...

And on another note, although I HATE bringing any of my cars to the dealership, Avante Mazda in Richmond Hill has never done me wrong.

Newmarket Mazda and Brampton Mazda for oil changes and anything to do with the rotary themselves and have been happy with both so far. I do like using the dealer for some things just to maintain a relationship if I ever need any warranty work done. Having said that, iGarage replaced my front rotors and pads as the dealer was too pricey in comparison.

If it's something simple or they have full workshop instructions for it, then bringing it to Dave Wood in Newmarket or Avante in Richmond Hill is your best bet with rotary vehicles.

But if you're in need of an engine rebuild, there is only 1 place to go. And that's Mazdee's in Pickering. Dave is the only guy I trust to rebuild engines properly. He's been at this game for a very long time and he knows what he's doing. He will assess the situation and what you're using the car for, and build the engine accordingly.
Don't think you know better because you don't. It's simple. You want a reliable properly built engine, let Dave do his work and you'll be more than happy with the results.

As with everything in life, you get what you pay for!

I agree with Ka Kui in regards to Scarb Mazda. I went there recently 3x based on the raves from most owners on this thread and I found them to be okay at best.

Someone mentioned Maz Mark to me last summer. Been there a few times. My car is there as we speak.

Stay very clear from Prima Mazda!!!!

Just wanted to Update ya'll

Fortunately, my engine is not gone, it was severely flooded, starter cracked, exhaust leaking, cat squeezed. my coils also went bad just had 10K on them.. (Let my friend borrowed her for a day) a lesson learned the hard way NO MORE!!.

I replaced the oem plugs, wires, coils, deflooded the engine(Took almost 1.5 hrs) changed the starter, waitin on racing beat exhaust & Cat Delete and bhr ignition kit.

She is running good, however, lacks power, acceleration is slow i beleive due to exhaust leak and squeezed cat.

Scarborough Mazda was awesome. Got my Starter, Coils, Plugs and wires. Got a discount as well.

Just an update on MAZDEEEZ, their prices went up $4500 for rerbuild. 20k kms warranty (if installed by them)

Someone mentioned in another post. Mazda is charging 2500 for re-man engine + 1000 for installation. If you need a rebuild, I'd suggest you go for re-man from mazda and if you can install it yourself then save yourself that 1K ..

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay Scarb Mazda for the coils, plugs and wires?

My car is currently at Maz Mark and I ordered the same parts from the States and he is doing the install. I did the same install 5 years ago but i moved from a house to a Condo recently.

Hey SPidey

I got good discount on the Starter i got it for 300 taxes in

Plugs ran me 110
Wires 90
Coils 350
Total: 625 taxes in

For this Price you are better of getting BHR which will last you double the lifetime of OEM.
My BHR kit is on the way cost me 700to have it delivered.
Hope this helps. and Coils, plugs, and wires are a very easy install. Next time just give me a shout I can help you with those..

I am down with that! I have experience w/ doing my own brakes, oil changes & tune ups. A DIY group would me nice! I would have done the job below but I don't have my driveway anymore since selling the house.

This is what I paid for my part and labor:

Labor Cost @ Maz Mark = $160 cash

Parts from Rock Auto
AIRTEX / WELLS Ignition Coil CAD$ 40.02 4 CAD$ 160.08
NGK Spark Plug CAD$ 17.39 2 CAD$ 34.78
NGK Spark Plug CAD$ 17.26 2 CAD$ 34.52
NGK Spark Plug Wire CAD$ 22.02 1 CAD$ 22.02

I think a DIY group is a great idea. I live in Aurora. I don't drive my car in the winter but once May rolls around I'd be happy to share what I've learned and pick up some tips and tricks from the guys doing this a while.

There is a facebook group for 'GTA RX-8 Club'. They typically do Meets in Scarbo & Markham every Fri night.

Sometimes they meet up for installs. RXReckless on this forum lives in New Market and he does a lot of this install.

Hi
I am still looking for some information on how my battery drains so quickly , after 2 weeks with car stopped. Whit my old RX7 , I would go out for holidays sometimes for a month and the battery was fine when I got back, but with the RX8 ,it seems to drain much quicker. Yesterday I had to call CAA again to charge the battery...The guy mention that with all the electronics of the cars these days, it is a common occurrence??? I never eared anything like that before ...Can someone confirm the validity of these statements? Thank you.

He's partially correct but 2 weeks isn't. A brand new GT-R from the dealer will kill the battery completely in 1.5-2 months. RX-8 should last longer. You either have an old/tired/bad battery or look at any added "extras" on your car like alarms and decks. Also, batteries don't like being drained so every time your battery dies, it loses a bit of its life.

A new thread should really be started for new questions :P

I'm going to take a guess that your car has a card key with keyless start? If so, this is a very common occurrence on any make & model with an entry & drive type system. The earlier systems didn't have a sleep mode like they do now so the car is always "searching" for the key which drains the battery quickly. If you have a switchblade or regular key where you have to put it in the ignition & turn it to start, then I'd check your battery to see how old it is, and/or make sure its the correct one with sufficient cold cranking amps.

Not in Newmarket any more, see sig. It going to be awhile before I'm doing anything with cars, my new garage is not ready and first thing is a furnace (it's cold in Orangeville). Then benches and shelving. Next fall a lift so I'll be back at it all next winter.
