where do you take you RX-8 for service? (toronto)

Hello. Was wondering where Toronto RX-8 owners take their vehicles for regular service?

Rotary-RX8 03-30-2013 12:14 AM

did you end up buying an rx8 ?

FERA 03-30-2013 10:53 AM

Hahahahaha

mafiaboy01 03-30-2013 12:11 PM

If you mean oil change etc. I always do it at home. Takes 20 minutes to do.

Sato Tatsuya 03-30-2013 04:12 PM

This is a great question. I am curious too!

maitre 03-31-2013 01:04 AM

I was taking mine to Airport Mazda (originally just because I lived near there, and owned several Mazdas, kept going there out of vague loyalty.) They were pretty good about honouring 3rd-party warrantees and generally not being dicks; but at the end of the day, they're still a dealership ... cash rules everything around you.

Going forward, for serious stuff I'd probably go to iGarage in Markham, they get lots of props on this forum. (And if I absolutely needed dealership attention, it'd be Avanti Mazda. Stay away from all other dealerships!)

Dave Dietrich @ Mazdees.

They are all the way out in pickering, and Dave can be a bit cranky at times - but he's a straight shooter and knows rotaries.

scottish 04-01-2013 01:57 PM

Dave Dietrich @ Mazdees hates the Rx8 and says its a pile of crap.

Ka Kui 04-01-2013 02:21 PM

^ Agree. I only bring FD3S to Dave, never bring SE3P......

abr 04-01-2013 02:58 PM

^^^

Yea - I know he doesn't like them, but finding a trustworthy mechanic that knows the engines and can work on them for less than dealer cost is worth something.

Where do you guys take them?

K.C.C. 04-01-2013 03:15 PM

I went to Speedstar for my last couple of routine maintenance items. Any other RX8 drivers go there?

abr 04-01-2013 03:43 PM

^^^^

I've never been there, but know a few (non-rotary) people that do. I'm sure they are fine for oil changes etc, but would one go there for more? Do they have rotary specialist techs....?

Ka Kui 04-01-2013 04:22 PM

I went to Speedstar for alignment, suspension, and e-test before. They are very professional. They are more a Honda base, many S2000 and NSX go there. Alot of Subaru STi people go there as well.

The owner of the shop drives an orange color S2000 that lives in the same apartment building as mine before. Had a few chat with him. They usually do several big container shipment from Japan via sea cargo. If you are importing parts, good to deal with them.

How about for a cai install? Bumper was a pita and I don't want to mangle any more pop out screws

That's because he's honest :yelrotflm. Anyone that knows the previous generation will say the same. There are so many limiting factors for performance upgrades on the RX-8. Despite that fact, there is a steady stream of RX-8's going through the shop as I'm there every day now working on my 20b until its done. There are 2 in there right now; one is getting an engine and the other is being revived from extended storage.

If all you need is an oil change, go to an oil changer like the one on 901 Sheppard Ave West. The owner and his brother are both rotary guys there at least.

I have not had any problems with the engine, so never really needed a rotary specialist. I like Speedstar for their nice waiting area. I've also had good experience with APH with prep work for autoslalom and fluid changes. I've been to Mazdee once, Dave helped me identify the cause to a strange suspension noise.

Anyone remember a rotary shop called CP Racing in Brampton from years ago? I am just curious what the then owner, Chris Campitelli, is up to these days.

2hit6 04-02-2013 12:22 PM

In the east end: Can-Saf in Oshawa actually races with an RX-8
In Markham: Viz Autohouse Ltd. services many rotaries.
In Scarbo: Scarbo Mazda is awesome for service and parts & of course Mazdees
In WEST end: Talk to Al (01racing) at Woodbine Toyota

RXeckless 04-02-2013 12:36 PM

My garage and Newmarket Mazda, Newmarket Mazda has 3-4 race cars and I believe they service head office's FD3S RX-7 (CMY) so they must know something about rotaries?

^ Not sure about Scarboro Mazda anymore, as I had a total of three bad experiences with them. Once on my FD3S, and two times on my SE3P. Maybe parts, yeah. Avante Mazda & Maple Mazda are good for parts too, still honor RX-8 Club discount.

Rotary-RX8 04-03-2013 11:14 AM

Ya i stopped going there too. Not really cause of bad experiences but mostly cause its far.

typespirit 04-03-2013 06:11 PM

thanks for all the input guys :)

In terms of service at a dealership I definitely recommend Avante Mazda for those up in Richmond Hill. I worked there as a salesman and know first hand the service dept are good people and won't dick customers around.

Yah, both cars are basically show pieces. Peter's though, OMG. It is definitely the cleanest FD I have ever tuned. I built and ported both their engines.
