Smile The wait is killing me

Hello, just a quick note to say hello. I pick up my 8 on Monday, and the wait is killing me.

I went for a test drive earlier in the week. After the test drive was over, I knew then that I was going to be writing a cheque. :D

After browsing these boards for many months, I figured I knew what to expect, but I can honestly say the balance of the car is fantastic, not overly powerful, but the silkiness of the drivetrain coupled with its AMAZING chassis far exceeded my expectations!

I ended up buying an 04 Black GT with manual tranny and moonroof. The buying process went smoothly, with the exception of my insurance company not knowing how to operate a fax machine.

Anyway I just wanted to intruduce myself and say hello. I'm very happy to be part of the club.

Zoom Zoom. :-P

Congrats! And an *excellent* color choice

I never did go through that torture. While still trying to find an actual car configured the way we wanted (or so I thought), my devious wife bought one. I showed up at the dealership to "look at some of the cars," and was handed the keys, lol...

Wading through the movies at http://special.rx-8.mazda.co.jp/gallery/movie.html is always good for killing time...

You have good taste. Where are you from? Will you have her prepared for winter?

Hehe, nice to hear that your "devious wife" supports the 8!! Mine loves it, she's not really into cars, but I know she will grow to like it once she gets to spend some time in it.

As for the color selection, my choices were somewhat restricted on 04's. The dealership had 4 blacks, a sunlight silver and a white. My first choice was titanium gray, but there were none to be had, and Black was my second choice, so I'm ver pleased with my decision. I know it will be tedious to keep clean, but that gives me a good opportunity to use the pressure washer that I got for Xmas! :D

Thanks for the link I will have a look at it. I need anything I can get to make the time go by faster!

Cheers.

Hi Velocity, I'm in Ontario. Funny you should ask about having her ready for winter. I could not believe how hard it is to find snow tires this time of year. So it was a bit of a scramble yesterday to find wheels that I liked and get winter rubber.

Anyway I did manage to get it sorted out, and I dropped the winter wheels off at the dealer this morning for them to mount before I take possession (monday). They offered to store my summers there, and do the same for the winters when its time for them to come off.

Do you have any winterizing tips that might make the car a bit happier in the cold?

I'm sure she will! Mine didn't really enjoy driving my old Eclipse (said the turbo was too unpredictable and annoying), and hated the Evo we test drove (too wild and harsh)... but she's very comfortable driving the 8.

One of the nicest things about the 8 is it's ability to go from sports car to daily commuter without skipping a beat. You're not punished with a harsh suspension when getting the groceries, nor does the car ever feel "compromised" when enjoying the twisty back roads.

Funny how this happens, I had 2 years left on my Protege 5 lease and went to the dealership to see the RX-8, again. My buddy is the manager and he said to take the 8 on a test drive, rather then take the black demo out for me he pulled a new silver out cuz he new I liked that colour. He had it cleaned up and put a full tank of gas in it then handed me the keys. THis was a Saturday morning, he said " See you Monday night", fine by me. Needless to say I returned it Monday night and worked a deal for it, funny thing was my buddy had most of the paperwork filled out already. The hardest thing was waiting a week to pick it up cuz the MP3 stereo was not in stock.

Congrats!!

The worst of it is over, but mine survived several weeks of minus 30 stuff without any special precautions. She entered the family on Dec. 23. I do have a garage (unheated), which can't hurt. RX-8s don't take block heaters but there's a plug sticking out the front of mine so there must be some warming going on (coolant, oil pan?)
Main thing is, don't shut it down until it's warmed up -- higher risk of flooding. There's a million threads on the subject.

Welcome to the rotary madness that is the 8 :D --winterizing the car...mats. That's about it--as long as you have good tires, you're all set.

Congrats on the new purchase. You're picking it up today right? Probably won't see you on the forum until Wednesday cuz you'll probably want to sleep in the car.

20 cm in Toronto this morning. Just when I thought winter was coming to end ! I'm about to head back outside to shovel some more now. I should be able to take the RX-8 to work tomorrow as the streets are plowed in my neighbourhood so .... otherwise I'd have no clearance.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the warm welcome guy's! Well today was supposed to be "pick up day", but the dealership only sent the car out today to get the tints done ( a freebie by the way :D ) so they didn't have time to do the final prep. I'm told by the sales manager that I should be good to go tomorrow.

As for the weather, I'm almost glad that I didn't get it today, my street is plugged with slush and other winter by-products. so it might have been a little rough getting her home anyway..

I do have snows on there, I forgot about mats! What have you all done for mats? Crappy Tire, Costco?

Tonight will be another sleepless night waiting in anticipation. As someone mentioned, I know lots of you waited for many months to take delivery, that must have been complete hell.

I will be sure to take pics once I get back from driving. :D

Thanks again guys!

I recommend the Mazda winter mats if you don't have them, the fit is great and it has little housings with a rotor all over them. You should see if they'll throw it into the deal for ya.

I went with the Mazda mats as well. Like Hellbreed said , the fit is absolutely perfect and they stay put as well.

Ok finally got her, took a few days longer than I expected, but nonehteless she's home! :D

I'm eccstatic! I almost had a bit of a panic attack after I got home though. I fire up the garage door opener, and I pull up to the garage and I didn't think it would fit, but after getting out an making sure there was room, I managed to squeeze her in! This car is damn wide! I had a 4Runner before this, and it fit with no issues. Maybe I'm just being really cautious, and am not used to the dimensions yet...

I will post some pics once I get a chance, this is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned, thanks so much to all of you for helping me make the the decision.

900KM's and counting til' Zoom-Zoom! :D
