About 2 weeks away from the Mosport GP School. Anyone one here interested?

I know last year Rick and TheWulf came out for the two days at Shonnoville and had a good time.

Mosport is one of the most exhilarating tracks in North America, a real privilege to drive. It is not heavy on the brakes and you really don't need anything special to do the school (track pads, r comps or other mods but you will come out a better driver) and the fee is tax deductible. The school gets everything from DB9s to Mazda 3 and Mini Coopers.

Here are some pics from previous Mosport GP schools: track, class room, skid pad and a track walk with Derek Hanson who knows the track well and managed to beat the factory Porsche team in a 24h race at Mosport.

Hope to see some of you guys out there.

Video of track: http://vimeo.com/1391494 (not sure what run group this is)

PM me if you have any questions. I will be there Friday - Sunday.

EDIT: Forgot to mention the school has insurance coverage.

They now offer a chance to come out and check out the school (from maxbimmer):

On Saturday April 30th, and Sunday May 1st everyone is invited to see what the school offers first hand, with a guided tour of the event.

1) You will get the chance to sit in on an in class session;
2) Try a skid pad exercise and
3) One of our instructors will take you out for a couple laps around the legendary Mosport Grand Prix track.

This is an amazing chance to get an idea of what the school’s experience is all about, and its totally free, not to mention a great way for any car guy or girl to spend a day!

Contact: john_venditti [at] hotmail.com if interested.

Update on the school:

I did all 3 days. They tweaked the curriculum a bit to focus a bit more on fast in fast out - turn in earlier trail the brakes deeper a change that is in the right direction in my opinion.

Friday we had 4 hours of track for 250$ all in - great deal. I had allot of fun riding gt3s through the corners (the usual I got money but no driving skills symptom Porsche symptom).

Sat and Sunday were two hours of track time per day + exercises which were geared towards car control and in class sessions. It rained a bit on Sunday but the track remained reasonably dry.

This was my first event on the koni yellows, pt springs and rb sways combo. I had the shocks set at about 60% from full stiff in the back and 50% from full stiff in the front (too lazy to look up the clicks). The springs and shocks did make a difference as the car swayed flatter through the turns but I still did not have the ***** to go flat through 4 - although the car could probably do it. Overall not many cars handle as good as the 8 but it really does need 50 more bhp as 99% of the cars at this event were pulling away on the straight.

I had a really good instructor and also managed to get some input from Mike Boekdrukker ("Booker") who quickly managed to drop my ego and confidence but it turned out to be for the best as I ended up going faster through 3 and 5 thanks to his advice.

The Club Race School was also a great success - everyone learned allot and without any contact. School was taught by a mixture of Regional and BMW Club racers. I thought about the race school but opted against it and it was probably for the best.

Lots of prospective students came out to check out the school and got rides with instructors, hopefully some of them come back as students in future schools.

Some pics can be seen in this thread on maxbimmer: http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/show...=1#post1498586 (Courtesy of Rich Simpson of Rebirth Motorsports)

Hope some of you come out to the June School: June 3th-5th.
DDT, Cayuga and Shannonville are fun but Mosport is in a different realm as far as exhilaration goes.

PM if you have any questions.

Here is my version of the line for Mosport in our car after the last 3 days there (this is synthesis of watching pros, top regional guys, walking the track and my personal "feel"):

EDIT: [Legal Disclaimer - Do not follow these notes if you have just started tracking your car / have never been to Mosport or just want to have fun]

Turn 1 – Early turn in, brush the brakes going once you are going down hill, no need to really brake here just to set up the car, get on the gas very gently, brush the curbs on the way out but don't go on them – full throttle just before that, let the car track out the left close or slightly touching the turtles. Keep you eyes focused on where you want to go unwind quicker than you think. Our car can carry allot of speed through here. You enter in 4th gear and exit in 4th gear.

Turn 2 – There is a few versions of the entry into this corner but everything comes down to setting up for getting on the throttle - full throttle as soon as possible in the second part of the corner. You are all the way to the right on but enter the for the first apex about 1 cars width from the right. Brake gently, do not carry too much speed - common mistake - can result in a lift, spin and a trip to the body shop.

Brake moderately and come of the brakes smoothly. Look for the first apex – position the left wheel right to the very edge of the track, let the car go to the right but not too much, get on the power as soon as possible and you should be full throttle by the last 3rd of the corner. Every fast driver will have his left wheel almost touching the grass on the second apex (between the line and the 'extra bit of track') - right wheels on the concrete patch. Let the car track out - go on the turtles if you need to as you will be carrying allot of speed. You enter in 4th gear and exit in 4th gear. Trust the grip of your tires here - turn 2 is about commitment.

Turn 3 – Tempting to entry this corner too much to the right. There should be about half a cars width upon entry, you should carry significant braking into the corner to rotate the car. You will need to downshift into 3rd for this corner. Be patient and get on the gas progressively. Unwind the wheel so it is straight before the turtles (on your left) on entry into 4. Do not hit the curb on the inside -it will upset the car. Go back into 4th as the car is starting to get parallel to the track on the left.

Turn 4 – If you have the ***** & car control this can be done flat in our car. I go all the way from the right but enter around the C in the sign or slightly to the left of it. I gently brush the brakes with the left foot to set up the car before entry and gently get on the power - full throttle very soon. Turn 4 is done in 4th gear.

Turn 5a-b-c From 4 you stay left and then cut straight across to the curbs upon entry into 5a. You are braking hard into 5a - this is the only hard braking area going from 4th gear to 3rd and accelerating going into 5b. Do not go all the way up to 5b but make your steering input through this corner into a smooth arc. This means staying about a car's width away from 5b. It is important to look through the corner and set your mind up for the exit as it leads to the longest straight. Heel and toe into 2nd gear, get on the power progressively. Get close to the curbs on exit and on the curbs to the left as you are exiting from 5c they are rough but you can go on them. I run out of revs here and quickly go into 3rd.

Turn 8 – You are in 5th gear. Get all the way to left, start braking past the hill go into 4th, brake in a line that is as straight as possible all the way to the first set of curbs . Create a kind of a double apex, so brush the curbs let the car go about half a width to the left and bring it back in for the second set of crubs. Ride along the curbs and shoot straight for 9. You should be full throttle past the second apex.

Turn 9 - is a throw away, do not make a turn out of it. Go straight and then slightly wide. Do not try to do to much through 9 - will gain little and can cost you through 10 so focus on 10.

Turn 10 - very tricky, brake smoothly and try to set up the car for an early apex, you should be full throttle pretty quickly here. It is ok to slighly brush the curbs on the inside this actually sets up the car. Very important to carry speed through here and exit onto the curbs on the left - there is an extra bit of asphalt past the curbs - use it.

Shift into 4th for turn 1.
