Post Toronto - "RX-8 Club" or "Rotary Club"

I was asked to start this poll by another member who was having difficulty with the editor controls. The poll is only meant to focus discussion, not make a decision.

The question is pretty straight-forward. I decided to not include an "I don't care" choice as I felt it would undermine the poll. If you have any inkling of a preference, please vote accordingly.

Me, I'd like to see it be the "Toronto Rotary Club," but I can understand a desire to want to have an 'inner circle' for 8 owners. The thing is, I'm confident that that inner circle will happen anyway. It's already been forming for over a year. A Toronto club, regardless of the designation, would focus that growth.

You guys don't need anything from the prior generations. The Renesis and the 8's shell are a new beast - we have no advice or expertise to offer you. But I hope that a sense of comraderie and community would lead people to vote for it being a Rotary club.

But I though it was going to be an Ontario club?

It can be, we're just trying to get a sense of the car issue, the name is not decided. Ignore it for now.

We know there is a Protege Club...
How many clubs are there and what are they called ?

RX7 Club = NO
Mazda Club = NO(but there is a group of autcrossers that have a mazda related name but they do not advertise very much.

As far as I am concerned there are no clubs, I say this because I would like to join a club and they haven't found me.

What ever small fractured rotary communities exist could easily roll into a new, well organized active club.

The Protege club seems to be very succesful and I think the President of that club ought to be consulted on how he has mobilized his group. We have all heard of the club, I even attended one of their events, they are doing something right.

I had a engine rebuild party at my home in the thick of winter and had a turn out of a dozen rotor heads. Point being, if we create it they will come.

Of course we can't call it a Rotary club in the end either as every town has a Rotary club that has nothing to do with our engines.

LOL. no kidding. I think the name suggestions and graphics you guys already had were perfect.

'RX Club of Ontario' or 'RX8 Club of Ontario'

Actually, there are alot more views(55) and you don't have to post to participate in the poll.

FYI: domains are available for both RXClubofOntario and RX8ClubofOntario

All kidding aside ... vote for RX8 Club and we will reduce your taxes, legalize marijuana and implement a free trade agreement with Japan ...

Well put it this way if Ontario is crazy enough to admit a rotor head to the Bar later this year, I will give the 'RX Club of Ontario' free legal advice. But requests will have to comply with my specialty - Poverty Law. You 8 guys can afford 'Bay St' lawyers anyway.

Vote for pluralism - vote RX

If the decision goes for a general rotary club I'll commit to being a one man promotionial machine to get a large membership base. There are so many RX drivers out there that don't frequent the forums. We need to get them all involved.

Simply put the bigger the group the better. And I honestly believe that in the long run we can benefit from the 7 guys because of their overwelming knowledge.

It would be an honour to be accepted by the 7 owners who have been living and experiencing the rotary far longer than most 8 owners. They deserve respect and therefore should definitely be part of our group.

I agree. :p Seriously though I hope the 7 owners also respect the 8 owners. I've heard a few online bash the 8, about how it's ugly, it's slow, blah blah blah. I obviously don't feel this way, People should be happy that Mazda was even given another chance to make another Rotary. I love the 8 as does my Wife, we even test fit our 4 year old's car seat in the back. It's on our maybe list when my lease is up in the fall. Only the GS model thought as the GT is too expensive. I', also a member of T.O.Protege and love our regular organized meets, the informal "beer and wings" type of meets, the group buys, the awesome service/discount from Dave Wood Mazda, a T.O. Protege show team & motorsports team...etc. It's a good community and a great bunch of people. I would love if something involving Rotaries could emulate that.

Keep in mind that amoung RX-7 owners that there is inter-generation bashing. eg. Some FD owners feel superior because their cars are fastest from the factory and most consider it the sexiest. Some FB owners bash the FC for being "heavier." Some don't like the styling of one or two of the generations. The truth is that if one is objective they can likely point to deficiencies in all RX-7s and the RX-8.

UPDATE:
THEY PULLED IT FOR SOME REASON. I'll TRY AGAIN TONIGHT TO GET IT HOSTED AGAIN. I AM HAVING NO LUCK WITH THIS.

Here's a draft of the RX Ontario Video that I put together as a suggestion for the site. I have bery few RX7 pics so I can add some later. The quality, colours are really weak because its a small file. I'll try to post a better version soon.

Tell me what you think.

Here's the link.

Well said! I dont even know why this hole "change the name" thing came up? The 7's have their club and the 8's have their club. both 7's and 8's can go on one andother's club, and we are all welcome at one another's meets so i dont see the need to start changing the way everything is

I brought it up and it appears the majority thinks it is a good idea. The 7 club as stated earlier doesn't really exist as a formal body. The 8 club despite voicing their opinion for other car participation on this website, hasn't really done anything else about encouraging that participation. (Except for the meet that Amur(7 owner) posted on the forum a couple of months back)

Point being nothing will really change, the friendships you've already made will flourish and there will be an opportunity to meet other like minded individuals. What could be better than that?

As far as someone making fun of you wanting to remain exclusive, its in your head, I haven't seen a single post in this thread or the other discussion thread, where a 7 owner initiated bad will at the 8 owners wanting to stick together.

Lets move forward and build a strong club that we can all be proud of joining.
