Tire sizing help

People have measured their stock rim/tire combo on here, IIRC it's somewhere around 40ish lbs? The stock rims were weighed around 22 lbs. I can weigh my OEM stock tire/wheel combos once I get them off the car this weekend since I'm putting on my new rims if you want the numbers. Keep in mind air pressure makes a difference also even if a small one.

We have people running 245 on 18x9.5 rims w/ +28 offset lowered that did not need fender rolls. Mine right now is lowered also on stock rim/tires until I put my new ones on and they're not even close to a roll. 45 offset on 225's should not need a roll even if you slam the car; that's only 5 more mm towards the fender from stock, not even close to touching the fender lips.

currently im running 235/40/18's on stock wheels my track wheels are rpf1's with 275/35/18's. its amazing how different the car feels even with the wider rubber it feels a lot more nimble and quicker reacting from side to side transitions. feels like a totally different car.
andrew you should come out to the track ill let you take my car out and you can feel the huge difference yourself.
andrew also remember with a wider tire you moving the weight from the center or the rim to the outside which im sure yours well aware changes everything.

Thanks everyone. There's a lot of GOOD ADVICE HERE... I have a few last questions.
1) Does anyone have the definitive weight of the stock rims? I've found several different measurements posted all over the forum and the internet. Has anyone actually put the rim on a scale by itself?
2) If I were to stick with the stock size of 18 x 8, running 225 tires, but I go for a wider stance with a lower offset i.e. 18 x 8, +30. Essentially the track has been increased by 40mm. Does that make any substantial difference to the car's steering response and handling? Take into account that I have lowered the car.

You run 275 at the track?!?! Holy crap! That's crazy wide! Especially on a car that is only making about 195hp to the wheels.
Where abouts do you run? Got a favorite track?

i run the little tracks around here, shannonville, cayuga, used to run dunnville. its great having such wide tires, i run faster than pretty much anyone thats not on similar tires. nothing like passing 911's m3's evo's sti's etc.

Don't fret over tire width. Rubber compound and carcass construction make a much bigger difference than having an extra inch of rubber hanging off your rim. If I have to choose between Dunlop Z1 Star Spec in 205 vs. some ghetto tires in 255, I'd take the Star Spec every time.
Also most hard core summer tires already come oversized from the factory. The Yokohama AD07/08 are 2 inches wider than OEM at stock size.

245/40 18's on 8" rim w/45 offset
I just recently upgraded to HANKOOK VENTUS V12 EVO K110
but I did not put these on my stock (OEM) rims. At the same time I also purchased a rim with a 45 offset vs. our 50mm stock offset. The tires that were recommended to fit and perform best based on my research are 245/40 18's. I have to say I'm extremely impressed with the performance of these tires (and the new look of my 8)
