Taking Home my 8 this weekend...
Hey all!
I can't wait til this weekend --- that's when I'll be driving my baby home to Calgary (from Edmonchuk).
Anyway, I have a quick question--- Weather forecast for Edmonton/Red Deer/Calgary on Sat and Sun calls for mild temperatures with 40 - 60% probability of precipitation (daytime highs 7 - 11 degrees C). What would be the ultimate lowest temperature you would consider safe for the factory installed summer radials on the 8 without worrying about losing control?? I don't want to risk it if the weather is less than ideal.
Also, since the car has only 5 km on the ODO, what would you recommend with respect to driving it?? The manual says not to race the engine, avoid hard stops, not to exceed 7000 RPM, and to vary the speed. Any comments??
Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers. :p

Congrats! What colour?
If the temperatures are above freezing, you're fine (as long as there is no slush accumulations on the road
). If below freezing but the roads are bare, you're OK, just take it easy as the tires will have lower than normal traction. If there's slush/snow - park it!
Re break-in: just like the manual says. Don't hold steady rpm for long periods - try to always vary the rpm, accelerate slowly then decelerate slowly over a 20 km/h window (for example, 100-120). You can also use 5th gear for some of those cycles to get a different rpm band also.
Enjoy, and watch this space for a Calgary (maybe Alberta) meet sometime soon!
Regards,
Gordon

Thanks for the advice. I'll have to pay close attention to the weather forecast --- looks like Calgary is getting some snow in the next couple of days and I'm assuming Edmonton and Red Deer will, too.
It's Lightning Yellow (6 SP GT with moonroof).
Cheers.
