Question Stored car for winter, quick question

Hey

I stored my car in my garage for the winter. I start it once a week, let it get warmed up then I turn it off.. So I now need to get more gas for the car, check the oil and maybe get my major maintenance done (i'm 500km shy of 16k)

With the stock wheels/rims is it safe to take the car out on a dry day, obviously it'll be cold, but will this really hurt my tires??

Plus storing the car has been killing me!! i need an excuse to take it out!

If you have snow or ice on the ground, I wouldn't take it out with stock tires.

I have no personal experience with the OEM tires in really cold weather, the coldest I've driven on them is around 30F (-1C).

My understanding is that the OEM tires do not perform well during really cold conditions, even on dry pavement. I think the analogy that I've heard describes them as hockey pucks when they get cold.

My advice - stop doing that! All that is doing is generating water and acid in the oil, and moisture in the exhaust system. It isn't helping anything, it's hurting your car to start once/week and let idle for a while without really driving it.

Seriously, if you're storing it - put in some fuel stabilizer before you put it away, then leave it untouched until you're going to put it back on the road. User a trickle charger to recharge your battery a day before you're taking it out of storage. That's it! Starting it weekly like you're doing has been proven detrimental.

Regards,
Gordon

Well said Gordon...

And MrJynx, it will not hurt your tires to drive on them when it's cold.

def not a good idea. I drove mine with -10 and it was sliding everywhere. Even dry weather. Summer tires need at least +14 to perform the way they're meant too.

I got winters on right now . I wish i bought the winter beater and stored mine . I should just go with my instict next time ,.
