I would suggest that you go to court on the date listed on the ticket and talk to the prosecutor, it's your first offense, they'll probably drop at least 2 of the points, if not all 4.

It was a good read nonetheless, nothing wrong with a good thread-revival once in awhile! XD

I'm gonna guess you are no less prone to speeding in that car, am I right? Glad to hear the "good guys" came out on top though. :D

My 2 cents: I've used a place called M&S ( M & S Traffic Ticket Legal Services ) for like 4 tickets over the past 5 years or so, they only lost one case (and by "lost" I mean they only got it reduced. The others were complete wins.) The way I see it, between the 4-8 hours of standing in line at the courthouse, the mental drain of dealing with the courtroom itself, and the potential increase in insurance, it is way way WAAAY worth the $300 or so, to just pass it off and forget about it forever.

P.S. the most recent ticket was a doozey ... ask me about it at the next GTA meetup.

I'm in the middle of fighting one right now... I've hired Ken Moore Paralegal to help me with mine (my mechanic told me great things so I figured I'd give it a shot).

Totally agree ; I feel like if I have to drag myself into court, skip work, pay for parking and spend a whole day there, I'm burning $300 easily on top of a ticket that will only be slightly reduced. Rather give that to someone and cross my fingers to hope it'll just disappear.

John - did you find it advantageous to write a statement and give it to the paralegals? They told me if I wanted to, to provide them with one but didn't seem to stress it all that much.

Geez, you guys in Ontario seem to have it rough compared to me (I plate in Saskatchewan, living in Alberta at the moment).

In Saskatchewan, radars/jammers are completely legal. I've had 2 speeding tickets - The first one I never had a radar at the time, but I knew it wasn't me that was speeding to the extend claimed. I went to court and fought it, winning. Luckily for me, I was younger at the time and the officer had mentioned when pulling me over, "You're a young kid driving a yellow sports car. You stand out in the crowd". That was a response to a question I had asked him regarding the person who had passed me on the right and why he never gave that guy the ticket.

The second one I got, I just went in and said that my radar hadn't gone off when the officer claimed to have pulled me over, and that he also refused to show me the printout because he had allegedly "Erased it already".

Saskatchewan is much, much easier going with this type of stuff. I have personally been issued 11 tickets, and have fought all of them, 10 being dropped and one being reduced from $190 to $10.

Not really related to anything, but hell I'm bored at work so figured I would share my story!

In the case of my most recent one, there was appropriate documentation to submit, so I did so at the time I visited M&S. The others though, Mike just said he'd handle it himself. According to him, it's just about who you know and how you play it. Honestly, watching those people talk it out in court, on either side, it's like another world.

Supposedly Toronto is one of the worst cities in the world for "over-zealous" traffic enforcement. It's obvious, even just going out of town, how bad it is. They've cornered this market, alright!

Great story Fungster, thanks for sharing. As you probably know, detectors are illegal here, but even in spite of that, it's tempting to shirk that law and just wage war.
