Should I purchase the extended warranty?

My 04's warranty expires in April and I'm debating whether I should buy the extended warranty or not. I find the $2500.00 cost to be quite expensive, I've never had to buy extended warranty before on any vehicle, ( I purchase only honda's and toyota's), with the exception of a Ford F-150 that should have had the extended warranty but got rid of the POS quite fast. Did anyone purchase the extended warranty? Do you think I should?
Thanks

Hello, northerner, I purchased the 5yr 100,000 mi. extended warranty when I bought my car. I bought it because this was my first rotary powered car and to tell you the truth I was somewhat apprehensive about the reliability of this engine since I knew virtually nothing about it. I now have 40k mi. on the car with no problems at all. Looking back now it was probably a waste of good money. On the other hand if I do have a catastophic failure of the drive train I am sure I would be thankful for the warranty.

you can purchase extended warranty at the end of your current warranty terms? I was told by my dealer that I have up to 1 year after purchase to decide if I want extended warranty or not. that date is coming up for me and I'm also debating if I should get it or not. We purchased it with our other car (RX330) and have had no problem what ever for 3 years.. so we figured it would be a waste of money and I didnt get it w/ the RX8 ( even if something happens, the damage would have to be > $3000 to make it worth while). But two weeks ago I found condensation in the HID headlight, and the dealer said they would replace it under warranty but other wise it would cost $1500/piece to replace/install. So tthats $3000 just on a pair of headlights!

I'm having doubt now if I should buy the RX8 extended warranty or not. From reading this forum doesnt sound like there are many problems associated w/ the RX8 except for the common and occasion flooding, broken visor.. nothing serious etc ( Im sure Rotten will beg to differ).... So I'm torn... hmm....

No. Invest the money if you have that much and look after yourself.

Thanks for the replies guys, I probably won't buy it, I also just put about 4000 kms a year on the car so it's probably not worth it.

I purchased my extended warranty 5 years/100,000km through St Paul's Guarantee. It's $1,500 you might wanna consider that.

I bought my car used with about 45k miles. When I purchased it I got the 80k mile warranty (3 years I think). You really never know what is going to happen. I wanted to have warranty on the car while I was paying for it. I am at 65k now and no problems YET.

I am feeling the same way.
I didnt buy it either, its never helped me before with any other car I have had (ie.. not covered, or miraculously... 104000km, and the damn thing dies.. it would have been covered, 4K km ago... Would they honor it? NOOOOO (I tried, $3K bill to fix that!). The guy just about fell out of his chair when I said I didnt want the ext warranty.. he told me how much a new engine in the crate was (yeah so? again, it wont help me, it'll die 2.5 km after, I swear, and then you can laugh). They never told me I had the option to buy later, but I think its law..? It just costs more to buy it later, than in the beginning.

Did you know as well, if you buy the extended warranty, and you sell the car back to a dealer (same maker) and do not use it, (ie km didnt get that high) they have to refund it to you???

Food for thought...
