Shannonville July 1, 2005

Just wondering if anyone is going to the lapping day July 1? It is being run by Image Motorsports, cost is $160.00 for the day, open track between 9am and 5pm. They run long track until 1pm then switch to pro track. We will be there (weather permitting) for a test day.

hmm, I'll mention it to the race team I'm on. I know they want/need some more testing time and we have a race there in the middle of July.

#84 Racing - Who is WE?
and would you recommend a helmet - I am not sure if it will even fit with a moonroof?
Besides - there are so many airbags that can go off.
Got a number to arrange details?

I am sorry about that. We are Scarboro Mazda Racing, we race a 1990 RX-7 and my team and I will be there testing. The rules with these people are "there are no rules" it is open track. I would bring a helmet or borrow one if you can. My name is Alan Balinsky you can contact me at the dealership 416-752-0970 for more info.

#84Racing, is this the same group that organized the one in early May (Ben Swain), looks like the same format? Is there some direct contact info for the organizers of this one?

Rotator, I am 5'10" or so and the helmet is really tight, it brushes the headliner of my moon roof equipped car when I have the seat properly adjusted. What I found though was that I never noticed how tight it was once I was moving. The corning forces tend to make you lean a fair amount and there is enough other stuff to concentrate on that you forget about it. If you are much taller you won't fit unless you lay the seat way back but that's not an ideal driving position. The last time I did this it was a helmet optional thing also, I didn't wear it when instructors were in the car so I could hear them properly. When I went solo I wore it, face shield removed though . . . There is lots of runoff room at that track so I didn't perceive a lot of danger. I picked up a Snell M2000 rated full face helmet earlier this year for about $110, if your look around for a deal like that it's worth having as you can also use it in carts and stuff. Many events require a Snell M rated helmet so don't touch anything that is just DOT rated if you decide to get one. Also if tight for head room, don't be tempted to open the sun shade for the moon roof, I read in here someplace about someone hitting a bump and smashing the moon roof with their helmet.

It is not the same group. These guys are wide open with no rules about passing etc, but its good testing for us to run in traffic. If you have any questions call me at the dealership 416-752-0970. Another note, when buying a helmet, be aware that a "M" helmet is for a motorcycle and a "SA" is for automotive. There is a BIG difference in these hats as the M hat is meant for one big impact, and the SA is designed for a bunch of smaller ones. Also the M hats weigh a lot more than SA's.

Thanks #84Racing, I think I will pass on this one and wait for something a little more tame, maybe when the other guys run again in August . . . That track is pretty narrow in spots, great practise if one has a track car, not so good for my pristine sheet metal combined with my abilities . . . Thanks for posting these things though, I will definitely be out again.

Rotator if you are still keen to do this thing in a more controlled environment, both of these events are at Shannonville really soon. The first one is more of a driving school and the second is a controlled lapping day. One is an Audi event the other is for Z cars but all are welcome, there was still space left the other day for the Z car one. #84Racing is right about the aspects or the "SA" helmet, the only missing detail is price and availability, if you can get your hands on an "SA" for a good price go for it for sure. M2000 ones are also normally a premium price but because there are a lot more made and sold you can sometimes find some good deals. You can't for instance use an M helmet in a roll cage equipped car, it clearly is a compromise for occasional recreational use . . .

July 8th: http://www.audiclubna.org/calendar/f...gistration.pdf
June 29th: http://www.tizcc.ca/lap03.htm

I believe the guys I ran with the last time are hosting another event on August 19th, that was nicely controlled, provided lots of track time and as much instruction as you needed. They in theory will email me the details as we get closer.
