I have no idea, but watch his 7 go NA just ported out and it eats most cars Watch his video it's pretty nutty, but that's a race car, not a daily driver.

For the record our race engine is not "just porting" per say. It is a totally different port to stock. Having said that, our bridgeport engine which is a very modified stock port with carburetion made 230 at the wheels. Our peripheral port makes about 270 (Mustang dyno) or about 290 on a dyno jet dyno. Keep in mind these engines were about 125-130 at the wheels in 1990.

for a DD car, porting is not the answer. It won't get him where he wants to get. (HP/TQ goals)

scott.....reliabiltiy is a very loose term when dealing with a renesis engine and a turbo. You are looking at big money for the power you are looking for. Its part of the reason why I have decided to move on.....you can invest so much money in this car and still end up disapointed.....mind you a turbo would be nice....but you should be prepaired for for issues with the engine....this engine is not designed for a turbo.....It can be done and when done right it is very very nice but its a big big gamble. I should add its a big gamble with a lot of engines....the can always be issues.....if you do decide to do it spare no expense and get it done right. Msyql seems to have the right idea....maybe he could help you out or point you in the right direction with costs and what to expect i dont know?? I dont even know him....but he has a nice car and has run a turbo for a while now from what I can see.

Turbo's are great when the whole package is designed to run one. Just bolting one on in my opinion causes lots of expense and grief. Did it in 1992 with a Miata, learned my lesson (lol)

Thanks everyone for leaning into this...

Well, with Al's (#84Racing) help I hope to have 4.77 diff installed soon. Will hold off any decisions until I feel what that does... maybe it will reduce my motivation for more power

I looked at the SC. It has appeal for sure. Leaning toward turbo option though because it has less of an impact on gas mileage (not on all of the time) and seems to offer more performance for the $. Also, the turbo community seems to be quite a bit larger -- more discussion/ support.

It's swapping out the taller 4.44 gear ratio that the 8's come with for a shorter gear 4.77 gear ratio.

Causes the car to rev faster, which in turn makes it quicker off the line (peppier around town) by enabling you to more quickly get into the 8's power zone. You could get close to the same result by having a tire diameter of 24.2 inches as opposed to 26 inches the 8 comes with.

Only downside is that you will be at higher revs on the highway which could affect your gas milage if you do a lot of highway driving. For example, with a 4.44, you might be at 4k RPM's at 120 KPH and with 4.77, you might be about 4.3k RPM's at that same speed.

coolio...let me know how it goes for you and how you like it!

Just so you know I'm gonna be copying lots of your mods, cause I really like the way your car drives Hope you don't mind! But going to go for coilovers instead of the shock and spring set up you got. Need the 8 high for our winters

I believe the Pettit SC can free spin when boost is not required. They even claim that the mileage is improved in this mode due to the effects of the intercooler.

In my opinion, the best aspect of the SC is the fact that it delivers a much more linear HP increase (much like stock) and it delivers boost right up to the red line. All the turbo charts I have seen seem to drop off at 7,500 rpm and look more like a bell curve then a straight line.

Stock isn't linear. It also drops off as the VE of the engine drops. The turbo doesn't change this. If anything, a turbo can hit a specific PSI and hold it there, so on a turbo dyno chart, you're usually looking at the engine with a set pressure and seeing how it's natural curves look like. Just amplified with X boost.

A boost controller can negate any perceived positives you see with a SC over a turbo. It can allow you to adjust how quickly spool comes on, how much boost you get, and can allow you to adjust when the boost drops off or how high to hold it. You can basically replicate a SC's powerband if that was your goal. Spool time is the only constant, and as we've all seen, even the 3071R can hit full boost at 2800 rpm. Even highway cruising at low speeds is done at >2800 rpm. So boost is instant and immediate.

I wish I could drive both a turbo 8 and Super charged 8 to feel the difference. Does anyone in the GTA have a super charger in their 8?

keep in mind how the car feels greatly depends on the turbo and the boost controller. You can be in a 230 whp greddy kit, or one one with a 3071R making 350 whp. The difference is extreme.

Me too! I love driving my old Millenia S, the supercharger sounds like an air plane!

But i think Turbo is the best bet for our cars, like Scott mentioned, you have alot of good knowledge amongst the various forum members like MYSQL and others about turbos. that and there seems to be alot more variety in Turbo setups.

If Scotts anything like me, he will put this on the back burner and hope to forget about it, but after reading the forum he will just do it any way I give him 6 months max before he gets the turbo for his car
