wow, I think this post answer all of my questions!
I was afraid I wouldnt be able to drive this car in the winter ... (u know...slide into a ditch flip over a couple of times and die in a fire :P)
If you can drive in it Montreal u can drive it in Toronto

A couple of thinks I do want to know:

1st.
Shinka, Other then the fact that it probably never see the day of light in Canada, whats so good about it? They only tweaked the suspension / handling, maybe cut a little fat, give it a really ugly colour (sorry but I really cant stand that Cherry colour) slapped on a hefty price tag and call it a special "Limited Edition"...? or am i missing the point?

2nd.
Reading the post here, alot of people don't really agree in "modding" their Stock 8s just cause its "that good" (and u are getting alot of bang for the buck), I'm guessing if I do decide to drop an inch, It'd probably be a bad idea interms of having to live with it in the winter?

3rd.
Is the Sat NAV worth the extra 3k? I heard you need to get the moonroof if you want the NAV...and how much am I look at paying for a GT-6Speed or AT with sat nav? (cost of ownership+taxes)

I can't wait til I get my hands on this baby...just a little longer and I will have it! >.< (waitting til March '06)

hopefully be a MT, this is gonna replace our crappy family civic (which we leased at $410 after tax per month for...and we need to pay the dealership for over milage on the stupid sh*t generic box) and i hope i can convince her hehe :P (after all I'm paying 50% of the down payment!)

Question

Good afternoon,

Any Ottawa folks that have put the 3M Clearbra on their 8's... what was the price and how satisfied are you with it? Whereabouts did you get it installed?

I have 2 (yeah, sad) nice stonechips already on my car and it is only 2 months old. The damn Queensway isn't swept more than 1 or 2 times a year... arg (and no I don't follow closely, if you see me in a white 8, often going 100k in the slow lane to avoid chips!)

Thanks for your info/advice.

I'm in Ottawa and we get the worst weather around. I loved driving the 8 in winter. Mind you I park it in the garage since it does not like sitting outside in cold weather.

I also had the scotchguard clear bra installed to minimize paint chips from flying debris 9salt, rocks...).

The only issue I had with winter driving relates to snowplws mounds left on the road. With such a low clearance (4 inches), hiting those especially when in the middle of the road, is like braking. Only did that once.

Great winter car, loving it in Ottawa.

1....no you aren't missing the point

2....if you want to mod the car...di it...if not, don't....its all good

3.....the NAV isn't worth $300 so it isn't worth $3000. Go out and get a handheld unit fot $500-600. They can be taken anywhere, have better maps and better unpdates for less money.

4.....GO GET THE CAR...WITH AN MT

Seriously I can't understand how anyone could have trouble with this car in the winter if you have DSC and 4 winter tires.(other than maybe a clearance problem with big snow falls)

If you still are getting stuck or can't keep it on the road I have news for you....it isn't the car!

Rear wheel drive cars can be just as good in the winter than a front wheel drive car if not better...and a lot more fun too.

Lets just say black ice . It wasn't a pretty picture or easy process in repairing all the damages.

I had 4 winters. You can't do much with black ice. I was only going 7kmwhen i hit it.

I really don't want to destroy the car. If anything happens to the civic. I'll kick it and keep on driving .

No starting problems at all. The second winter I made a stick-on oil pan heater, since they don't make a block heater for the '8, and it helps to pre-warm the engine to speed warmup.

The car has stability control, traction control, anti-lock and a limited slip differential - how can anyone claim it is not good on snow? I have a set of Toyo Garit snows, and the car is great on snow and ice! It stops dead straight even with one wheel on the ice and one on dry pavement. Acceleration is a breeze, too - same conditions, you hear a couple of clicks from the rear brakes, then you pull away straight, as if it was a summers day.

I pay $650US/year for insurance. :D

Sorry to hijack the thread for a moment, but my dealership has block heaters custom built for the 8's they sell.

Call Garry Gordon's Mazda in Winnipeg @ (204) 475-3982. I don't work for them, just a happy 8 buyer...
