Hello, I just joined the club today, but have had my RX-8 since February. I joined to investigate winter tires

Too bad I didn't join earlier so I could attend the meet. Hopefully next time.

Jim: For what its worth, I'm going with Michelin Pilot Alpine pa2's 225/50/17 on cheap aluminum rims. Haven't decided which rims yet but there is Mississauga Tire saying that the RTX F120's 17X7 (can't find them anywhere on the web) work for the car and they are charging approx 150 per rim.

If you come across an alternative package or rims or tires let me know because I'm going to pull the trigger within a week or so.

Welcome Jimscutie...

I guess you saw the earlier post, yes we will definately do more meets and also will start a RX8 club dedicate to Toronto owners.

Since nobody else have imputed anymore names for the club, I will great another thread to do a poll (never did one, hope I know how to) for the name of our new club.

thanks everyone for the contribution and I hope I can get this website etc started soon. I know there are alot of people willing to join and hope our club will grow.

thanks

Mzpeed

Hybrid-RX8 - So where to get them winter shoes? I've got a quote from Avante at RX8:
$1798 + taxes
17? Aluminum Rims
17? Tires Yokohamas V901

Now seriously, I would prefer cheapo steel rims for my winter beaters. Any suggestions as to where to get them? I've seen your 8, don't tell me you're going to drive yours in winter . What do you think of Green Bay Tires? BTW has anyone heard of (I'm a bit skep about this myself) that you need to lift the car in a certain way or you end up cracking the body when changing tires? I mean it sounds so out in left field, but me salesman told me that one (like I said skep), just want to know before I go get me rims n' rubbers for winter.

BTW sorry for doing this here, but since we're on the topic, I thought I would chime in . Seriously, if this becomes a good topic, and I feel it will be, someone can start a tread to post prices and all (it's been done to death I know, but needed, yes.).

I've decided to go with the rims and tires below which I mentioned through Mississauga Tire. 1600 + tax = 1,840. NOTE: these 225/50/17 Michelin Pilot Alpines a2 are V rated tires with double reinforced side walls NOT H RATED OR LESS like some blizakks and Yokohamas. The rims are nothing special but there are aluminum 5 spoke shaped rim.

If anyone is interested in the same package I can let them know your coming and they could cut you the same deal or better.

Rotowheeee, they are "RTX F120" 17 X 7 with 40mm offset. Can't find a picture anywhere on the net. But did see some people say that they have/had RTX rims. I'll see them on Saturday morning on the car temporarily when I go to the shop. I'll only put them on come mid november.

I just got a quote from Westowne Mazda, Yokohama V901 with 17" Rims - 5 spoke for $375 per wheel - $1,500 plus tax. Any negatives on the Yokohama tires?

I used Tire Rack to do some homework and they don't even carry Yokohama but they carry everything else!?! So I don't know why they don't carry them and can't really comment. I read some other review on them and that person said they were outstanding. So I don't know.

If you find a reputable review or comparison showing the Yoko's are better, provide the link so we could all benefit.

Hey Hobbes,

My suggestion is to head over to WHeels Direct in Scarborough at McCowan and SHeppard. THey give great deals. I can refer people to a contact if need be. Feel free to PM

My car will not be driven in winter. She will be sitting in the garage getting ALOT of work done to her :p

Hybrid, I thought we made it clear: No Secrets!!! Tell us what your doing because I am very interested! Ideally I would like to have the blow by blow details. Open a new thread and call it " Hybrid's RX8 Modification project - Winter 05". I can tell you this, there are many people on this site that could give you some very good technical advice (certainly not me) and that may help you maximize on your investment when you have input from a variety of different minds!

Suprises are fun too if you want to keep it secret. As long as you tell us what you ended up doing! I hope you plans over the winter pay off.

I already have a set of17' rims, from my celica, pretty sure its a 38mm offset, so it should be fine....Im just looking for tires now. With everyone looking into these rims and tires, has anyone thought of whether they will be compatible with the TPMS???

Kart Racer, do you think its worth while buying the tpms sensors at $115 a pop? I'm not going to get the sensors if they cost almost as much as the rtx rims I'm getting this saturday. Already my rims and michelin pilot Aplines on the rtx rims is $1,840 tax, tip, out the door.

KART RACER: Yes we do have TPMS on our existing rims/valves and therefore the RX* knows when there is a problem. The Celica rims likely don't have the sensors and therefore you would probably have to go get them from Mazda. Alternatively, you can use the stock rims in the winter and buy 18" snow tires to match.
