Has anyone got any recent updates from their dealers concerning when and how many units will be available to canadian dealers? In discussions with my salesman it is clear the dealer knows very little. Called Mazda Canada and they were only able to confirm the pre-order shipment, one, for my Toronto area dealer. Certainly a lot less that the dealer indicated he would be receving when I ordered the car in March. I have heard, and been unable to confirm, that due to the hugh demand for the RX-8 in Japan the Canadian assignment may be cut back substancially. That aside, it is evident there very little info avail at the dealership and headquarters level for a vehicle supposedly arriving in June 03.

 

I'll just give you what the sales from the dealership had told me.

1) We know there are only going be 700 units for Canada for the year 2003.

2) This Dealership in Brampton Ontario told me they already have 8 orders already. They are gurantee only 2 RX-8 from Mazda.

3) This Dealership in Markham Ontario told me they have 9 orders already. He said he might be able to get 2 to 4 for sure.

Anyhow, this is what they have told me, but as you know these guys probably knows absolutely nothing about this and were just trying to get my deposit so take it with a grain of salt.

 

I can't see how a high demand in Japan can affect the production in Canada since the Japanese market uses RHD and Canada is LHD. It could affect the Australian and UK market since they are RHD just like Japan. The Canadian production is part of the American production run (we just get more toys as base).

 

Although I have no idea when these cars are coming (I know what Mazda Canada keeps telling the dealers, and I know what has been posted here, and I know what I believe for myself, which is that the cars will probably arrive around the same time as the U.S. cars, give or take a couple of weeks), I believe that anybody who really wants an RX8 this year will probably get one.

 

...i guess you're right about the timing, but from what i've seen our cars will be far more Euro-spec than the Americans', for less $$ and with more standard stuff (ie: there is no "standard" suspension, sport tune only )

 

Yeah, that makes me smile every time (even with the $ hitting .72). Now the only thing left to make it a perfect summer (after geeting my 8 of course) is to see a Sens-Canuck series for the cup. Go Canuck! We're rooting for ya! - Sens fan.:D

yeah, that'd be bloody brilliant, but i think the NHL is banking on at least one American team making it to the finals (they're way the hell more than half the tv audience), but i know the CBC wouldn't complain :D!!

Smoker, Mac, 73JPS, etc. Thanks for your input. I would like to suggest that we use this string to keep one another informed as to the latest info we receive from our various dealerships. I appreciate they have very little info to provide us, however, I receive more pertinent info through you guys than I do from them.

As a retired civil servant (no jokes, please) having gone through sedans, station wagons, Mazda MPVs and 626s in support of family activities, the RX-8 is now my retirement gift and I am excited as hell.

Things are heating up. Received a call from my Toronto dealer yesterday stating their initial pre-order has been confirmed by Mazda headquarters and that their June allottment is scheduled to arrive late June or early July. Two GTs, Red and Yellow. Nothing confirmed on subsequent orders but they are hopeful.
I have no idea how Mazada intends to deal with specific purchase agreements already in the mill.

FYI, I purchased a "Best Motoring" video CD where tests runs of the RX-8 was the main feature. The CD is the Mar 03 edition and has a red RX-8 on the cover. Although in Chinese, the videos are excellent and the test driver really took the car through its paces. I got in the Pacific Mall (Kenndy and Steels, Markham, Ontario. Certainly worth the $13. A word of caution: They also have it in the DVD format but it normally would not play on North American machines due to the "region" restrictions.

I can't recall the name, let alone spell it. It was in one of the video/cd store in the large building itself. One had it right in their front window while several others had it displayed on their shelves. Hope that's helpful, good luck.

If you remember approximately where the store is (eg, close to the doors at the end, close to middle, next to a ### store) then it will be great, if not, just as good.

I went into my local mazda dealership, and I happend to mention the rx-8. The Salesman I was talking to said that they have pre-sold 10 allready (one from a year and a half ago). And they expect to get a total of 20 units through-out the year.

Which dealership was that? The dealership I ordered from (Downtown Mazda) in Toronto claims to be getting only 7 this year. With only 700 allotted for Canada I can't see how too many dealerships will get more than 10 (Avg per dealer should be around 5 -> 700 cars / 150 dealers)

I'm actually starting to wonder if I'll see my car in time for Summer seeing as I was order #7 (March 03)... despite promises of a delivery in June.... Called Mazda Canada about delivery dates and they said talk to the dealer. Dealer says no further info other than production has started. It's a good thing for this forum or I would be re-thinking my deposit for lack of reliable information.

The dealership is in Guelph (were I live), weither they actually know what they are talking about or not, i have no clue.

they said that they will be receiving their first batch of cars in July.
