Rust Spots on Inside Rear Door Frames
I was washing my car this past Saturday and I noticed a rust spot inside the rear passenger side door frame - on the body of the car, not the door. It's a surface spot - gone through the clear coat, but not through the metal yet. I checked the same spot inside the driver side rear door and again found another rust spot in exactly the same place.
I was wondering if anyone else has noticed the same thing on their car... I am thinking that it is a problem with the doors, since the same thing has happened on both sides of the car in basically the same spot
I called the dealership and I am taking it in next week to have it looked at. I'll let you know what happens.

It's not the easiest one to search for but there is a TSB covering a problem of this nature. http://www.finishlineperformance.com...01-05-1427.pdf
I had this problem on the driver's side only and did the fix myself (on both sides).

I have the same problem.. I reported it to the dealer (along with a link to the TSB) and the dealer is going to be doing some body work to remove the rust, repaint and then follow the TSB to make sure it does not happen again. Mine was pritty rusty before i caught it :-(
Chris, What did you use for the "protective film"???

I used some 3M clear film that I acquired from a body shop when our other car needed some work. They let me have a piece about letter size. I simply cut two long, thin ovals and stuck them on (after the paint clean up / touch up on the driver's side). I did the repair about 5-6 months ago. I happened to check the two areas last time I washed the car - so far, so good.

I took my 8 into the dealer to get the rear tail light replaced (condensation) a couple of weeks ago and had them look at the rust spots. They were aware of the TSB and agreed to fix the problem - they also agreed to cover the cost of a rental car too, since I would be without my 8 for a day and a half. They booked me into the body shop at Carling Motors this past Monday and I picked it up yesterday evening. They did an excelllent job - I can't even tell where the spots were!! They also fully detailed my car - inside and out!
If you have an 04 RX8, you should check for the rust spots on the lower edge of the rear door sills - see the link in the post above for the TSB, it shows the exact location. The problem area is not obvious and you really have to look for it.
