Running Lights Out

Any of you ever had your running lights cut out? Just seemed to have happened today on the way home. Thought maybe the emergency brake was still on a little but no...just no running/daytime lights.
Any words back appreciated. Thanks

Try your high beams. One may be burned out.
If both work then it's the control module.

If you're out of warranty, the DRL module is $200-300. onlinemazdaparts have the US module (without DRL obviously) for $179. It's a BS component that fail on pretty much everyone.

Your high beam might not be out. I thought mine was, but discovered later it wasn't. Occassionally, after returning home and turning off my headlights, I see the driver side high beam on, but the passenger side is out. Sometimes, raising the handbrake and releasing it will get both DRLs to turn on again. I think my module is screwed as well, but it's out of warranty now so I'm not going to get it fixed.

As it turns out, both of the bulbs were burnt out. A little unusual but replaced and covered under warranty.
On a different note, I took the car to avante mazda in Richmond Hill this time around. This is the first ond only time I have taken any of my cars to any mazda dealership and left feeling good about the whole experience. I may have finally found a mazda dealership that although not easy to get to, doesn't suck. Cheers to Anthony and the guys at avante...you are actually the first dealership in about 6 visits that also bothered to wash my car.

Both bulbs blew at the same time? Odd.

My DRL module was just replaced under warranty.

But I asked them specifically -not- to wash my car. Have you seen how dealerships wash cars these days? -shudder-

I went to Avante Mazda to check out their selection when I decided to buy an 8. Spoke with Emilio and tested an LY that they had. Nice guy, too bad he didn't budge on price. Then again, good things come to those who wait, and I picked up my LY privately for 10% less what the dealer wanted.

Avante is much better than the other dealerships, but you need to keep them on a short leash. Anthony is a good guy, but some of the other people in the service department are snakes.

Both mine burned out too. I couldn't believe it. In fact I called the service manager and told him my DRL module had failed and he believed me and ordered a new one. However it turned out the DRL was fine, so they replaced the bulbs. They charged me for the bulbs and the labour, including the the labour chasing the DRL because of my insistance that it was the culprit.

When I looked at the bulbs, I saw that the filaments had not burned out, but had become detached from the supporting leads. I felt this was a defect in the manufacturing that Mazda should pay for, especially since it happened on both bulbs within a very short time. I fought with them but they beat me down insisting it was a wearable item. If I had not been so sure about the DRL, I would have replaced the bulbs myself.
