Raw Deal - no RX-8 for awhile !!!

So a freindly game of hockey has left me with a broken left ankle !!

Having recently put on my M3 Winter Tires, I was looking forward to tackling the winter with the 8. However the doctor tells me no clutch pedal for 6 weeks!!!

I have arranged a sad sad trade - my girlfriend will get my car, and give her car to a buddy of mine, who inturn will be loaning me his 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlas Supreme.......how sad. No offense to those with their father's Oldsmobile but it is no 8. Teal colour to boot.

The GF needs a tutorial on handling a GS 8 with no traction control in the winter.

Has anyone braved working the clutch with a cast on before?? I think I should try it.

Ouch! Sucks to hear.
I don't think you should apply any unnessasary pressure to a broken part on your body. You're trying to heal, not make things worse! lol

She'll be alright in the snow. You have winter tires on. What can go wrong...

Hunter84.
Clutching with a cast that comes only up to the bottom of your leg is not too bad. I can't imagine it really giving you a problem unless you have a size 10 fot of bigger. Try it. People will say you're crazy but if you're experienced you will have no problems. There's no need to trade the cars....

Except that you can't feel a thing through your casted foot. Expect fried clutch for a few days, or until you come to your senses and decide to take the safer and saner route.

I see it as being too easy of a solution, put hockey skates on both feet and then drive. Or try driving with just one foot.

On a serious note, I ain't a doctor but for a certain time rest is probably the best medicine for this type of injury. Secondly imagine if for some reason something goes wrong...

If you are in Toronto and have winter tires on the car then there shouldn't be any problems.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your foot. Did you take a spill in the wrong direction or tried blocking a shot? I'm glad I play goal and don't have to worry about ankle injuries.

Hey sure you can do it but be advised that if you happen to have any sort of accident your insurance co may not cover you.

I am not 100% sure of this but my doc told me to watch it when I was driving my 8 (6spd) with a broken right collar bone. That was pretty easy ... might be odd with a cast ... not sure if the Hulk leg would hit the brake at the same time.

nah the switch is happening saw my doc the other day and he gave me the news that it is broken in two places!!!!F...!! He put it in a cast with my foot on a weird angle, a good "heel and toe" angle if it were my right foot. Insurance I'm sure wouldn't cover me if they knew I was driving like that.

For now I am doing the car trade and will pray that my GF doesn't get too adventurous on any slick roads.

And since the swelling has gone down I can really feel the bones clicking around at times - not so much fun. We''ll give it a few weeks.
